Has anybody had a pump fail on them, and what were the symtoms?

I've already ordered a new pump from Mark (@Lateral) but im just hoping to confirm my symtoms. The first thing i noticed was the car would be more difficult to start, it would fire but almost die then recover. This got worse to the point im at now which is it needs about 4 or 5 tries before it will start. During this time the car would stutter/miss while on boost, ok while cruising. This has now changed to you can feel it miss while cruising and basically you can't get any boost. However during this time it has seemed to disappear and be fine (although only for short periods).

I've checked the following.... MAF, Coils, Plugs (new), TPS, Boost solenoid, Coolant temp sensor, ISCV, all hoses etc. and these seem to be fine. Not checked the ecu yet....

The pump can be heard to prime so i know it gets power, i can here the relay click too. Sometimes i can here a sort of gurguling (sp?) noise while the pump is running tho and interestingly i used to always get a pssst noise (venting) when i take the fuel cap off but occasionally now i don't?

Sound familiar to anybody??

Tony.

Mine has similar symptoms due to running far far too rich. Have you had it remapped??

Yep, i've had it remapped, but it has been running fine on this map for months.

Maybe the FPR is dodgy. I have a spare, will try that after the pump arrives.

Cheers,

Tony.

Just changed the FPR and Lambda sensor. These made no difference. Just done a search on the internet and found a list of symptoms for a failing pump, these include hard starting, rough idle, loss of top end power and lean misfire. They sound very familiar so touch wood it is the fuel pump.

Tony.
