Don't know if anyone else went, but this day @ £10 (charity donation) was an absolute bargain.

Top sideways action from most of the cars, great atmosphere, chance to rub shoulders (literally) with racers from Touring Car, Rallying, F1, Motoring Journalists and cracking 'privateers' (especially those rice rockets from the 'drift club').

Ian Litchfield - loved the Spec C, hope you didn't mind me 'hanging about' gawping and taking photos - shame the C wouldn't go more sideways (did you have the adjustable diff set right to the rear?!)

Bonus included the fact that Williams F1 team were testing that day (hence Gene's impromptu visit) and seem to have no problem with us watching the 'action' (standing start testing) and poking our head through the pit garage door!

A few nutter wannabes in the car parks afterwards, but that was quickly snuffed out by the security and police patrols ;-)

Heartily recommended for next year...

Photos and video clip links to follow...

Anyone know how to be 'accepted' for the actual drifitng? (quite fancy my chances for next year - can't do any worse than the TVR!)

Ian was very impressive in the Spec C at Trax too

Shame I only saw a small glimpse of it as he went past me, as I was on track at the same time

Now I have a question re drifting

How easy is it in a standard UK scoob for some sideways action

Blue_Boy 21 September 2003 02:44 AM

Easier than in a Spec C by the sounds of it!

Got any pics of the sideways action at all???

Cheers ;)

Got lots of static pics (Spec C included) and a few mini clips of action (but none of C)...

Hoping to upload them later today.

Hello

I'm the publisher of Autocar and organised the day. Getting accepted for the drifting was simply a matter of

a) Being a pro and being asked.
b) being a mate of the mag like Iain and being asked
c) Getting in really bloody early and booking one of the punters places. No vetting going on, we just counted on prospect of lunching a car in front of a crowd full of people to keep the less talented amongst you away.

Glad you enjoyed the day - we did too. Raised just shy of £3k for charidee as well. Highlight for me was Pentte in a Mondeo and taking a chance on wandering into the BMW pit garage and seeing if Gene wanted to do it. Luckily he said yes!

sorry to spoil the thread, but Stu , if you need/want a good PR company to promote/advertise your events e-mail as per profile

It was a  day. My highlight was Pentti in his mondeo too and I have a cool shot of him sideways in his mondeo. Gene was stupidly fast

Paul :)

Interesting how Gene was quick off the bat in the M3, yet Justin seemed to stuggle a little in the Jag...I guess it is down to driver experience of road cars (as opposed to race cars) and not ultimate car control?

Although it seemed Pentte seemed to be able to go sideways in anything...maybe he'll try a truck or a golf cart next year!

Pics can be found at (you'll have to cut and paste into your browser - can't get the clicky to work for some reason):

Went last year, good day out that year too!

Did they do rides round the circuit this year??

ex-webby 24 September 2003 10:26 AM

Forrest_Stuart,

Welcome to Scoobynet! :)

I am glad the day went with such success.

Regards,
Shaun.

Paulo P 24 September 2003 10:32 AM

Andy

No they weren't doing rides :(

Silverback@work 24 September 2003 03:51 PM

Not sure I would have wanted to be in the car with Marrko on his first run that ended in a little 'accident'!!!!!!

ADP 24 September 2003 03:53 PM

thats a shame I had a ride with Steve Sutcliffe in an M3, my mates went round with Tiff Needel and Derek Bell :D 10er each :) and these were very sideways rides, not just pootles!

carl 24 September 2003 04:04 PM

When's the article published? This week?

Silverback@work 24 September 2003 04:17 PM

I would have loved a passenger ride...perhaps Autocar can take note and get it sorted for next year (more money for Charity)?

Paulo P 24 September 2003 05:25 PM

Markkos run ended in the pits 50 meters later  I have photos of what was left if anyone can host?

Paul
