Today i thought would be a nice day to paint me calipers. However, i jacked up the car, took off the nuts (no jokes)and went to pull off the wheel. But the bugger wouldn't come off! Any ideas and yes, i did jack it off the ground and i undid the 5 nuts around. would it be an idea to take it to a tyre place and get them to do it? Least i get to laze in the sun instead

get a block of wood and press against the inside of the wheel and use a hammer to gently knock the block of wood , that should get it off

It just needs a good knock and it will free it

they sieze on over time, just use a block of wood!! just put one of the nuts back on a couple of turns tho, otherwise it may fly of in a rush and hit u ijn the chops!! ouch.

This usually happens due to corrosion. (nothing to worry about) Copper grease would prevent it.

Smack the tyre with a rubber mallet and it'll come.

Kick it at 9 o'clock and then kick it at 3 o,clock, and it will come off.

Time refs to denote area to kick the tyre, not when to kick it.:D

That sounds serious, I'd book it in with a Subaru garage if I were you.

Failed once to remove an alloy wheel even with rubber hammer or even lump hammer onto block of wood - don't damage those alloys :-o

Resorted to a bottle jack in end which worked a treat.

As talizman said, copperease between alloys and hub will stop the sacrificial corrosion and then no future problems.

Or just put a couple of the nuts back on loose and very slowly lower the car so the tyre touches the ground but keep the jack under and dont let the full weight of the car rest on the ground - jack back up and it should come off - once you took the couple of nuts off:)

Just whack it! You will do NO damage providing you hit the tyre.

the copper slip is a good tip

to ensure it doesn't happen again

Place a small amount of petrol under the tyre...

(getting good) light petrol (better) and leave...

in about 30 minutes the offending article will have parted company!!!! ;) ;)

just whack it with a hammer or if you have steel tocapped boots kick fcuk out of the tyre usually works for me

Make sure when you whack the wheel that the car is supported properly and you aint under it! If you are just using the standard Subaru jack I wouldnt whack the tyre especially if you have a puncture on the roadside and are trying to get the spare on and dont happen to have a rubber mallet and piece of wood in your boot.

This is exactly why all breakdown recovery vans carry a wodden mallet with rubber at the end.

Cheers for ya tips guys. I'll give it another go on tuesday. (i'll start an arguement with the missis, get p1ssed off, take it out on the wheel with block of wood and hammer or maybe even use her and if it all goes wrong...i can blame her for putting me in a bad mood!)(only joking!)

This happened to me on a loan Volvo once.... (Yes go on take the Pi$$ I did have a Volvo for a year(( S60 2.4T very nice motor))

Nice man from RAC explained it is very common and is caused by a chemical reaction between the steel Hub and the alloy wheel.

Right or wrong I don't know but as with the others he used the faithfull (And well battered I might add) official RAC Spec chunk of wood and large hammer....

Took some beating though.

Word of caution :- This can be a very dodgy game to play when only using the standard Jack.... Trolley Jacks are far safer.

RAC man advised me to slot spare wheel under axel prior to commencement of spanking.... Good advice i reckon.
