Hi All.
Ive cleaned my engine outside etc with CD2 engine cleaner & detailer. This stuff is sprayed on, rinsed off then a final spray on. I vovered the alternatir , battery & intercooler when doing all this. Trouble is my idle speed is now at 2500 RPM :( Any ideas what Ive done & how to sort it out? Thanks |
Did you move the idle speed control valve at all or knock it?

Could have done without knowing. Did some cloth rubing around the place. Where is it, whats it look like?
Help! :D |
Where it is will be on the throttle body. Exactly what it looks like we can't tell you without knowing what model year of car you're looking at! ;)

Indeed it does. The ISCV is the gadget in the upper right of the picture. The stepper motor is the silver cylinder with the white Unisia JECS sticker and the black multiplug connected to it.
Was that pic taken after you'd cleaned? If so, it doesn't look like anything is obviously amiss. Remove the ISCV connector and see if any of the cleaner's got inside. If not, chances are that it's fine and the cause is elsewhere. While you're there, also make sure that the throttle linkage can move freely. [Edited by greasemonkey - 9/20/2003 6:13:54 PM] |
Thanks,
Pic was taken after cleaning. Could be some water has got in. I re lubed the linkage & cable after cleaning etc and that seems fine. I'll have a look at the connector. |

Hmm, connector looks fine. The idle speed is always more that normal, but not always the same speed. Mostly today it was 2.5 - 3k revs. However this evening it was only 2k.
Could it be related to engine temp? After cleaning I went out & car was fine. However after a 15 mile drive up motorway it had started to stick. |
Wierd.
Seems fine again today. Been to work & back, then some shops and all is well. I suspect it could have been the fumes from the cleaner getting into the air intake somehow. Engine cooled overnight & fumes cleared. Thanks for all the help :D Paul |
