Following on from the fake car badging thread, what are peoples opinions on these? After all how many people are actually going to beable to afford a real ferrari?

fatherpierre 18 September 2003 06:38 PM

They look sh1t.

They cost around £15k. You can get about 450bhp + out of a MR2T with that sort of cash.

They are too narrow to carry it off and if you have a little prang you're fooked for parts.

Each to their own.

IwantAscoob 18 September 2003 06:43 PM

same as going to a classy club in a fake polo shirt, your driving around something that is saying "i cant afford a 355 so look at this pile of ****".

utter manure

We live in Dissatisfied society theory, and alternative futre number 1

places where we are brainwashed into being dissatisfied with everything, in an attempt to make us work harder to attain MORE material passions, this cycle continues and results in a society where image is everything.

Competing to have MORE than our neighbour, but at the same time being dissatisfied with what we have. You see this in so many places, people modifying perfectly acceptable cars and all in the name of creativity? or personalise? What!! you made that part did you? You painted it? You designed it? no your just another consumer, purchasing products like your told to, hand bags for cars.

Fake cars, and cars with fake badge is just another aspect of these theories. Do a search on alternative future 1 and read up and what people with free thinking minds already know ;)

Now someone who works hard and creatively designs such a fake car, gets my thumbs up for the creativity, and effort involved…things many of us seem to have lost long ago.

Me… I think it shows the owners limited thinking and susceptibility to market forces, to do something for no other reason than Looks Q boy racers and max power(or as I see it, to please others)

pugoetru 18 September 2003 06:46 PM

you can ]/b]get a ferrari for 15k anyway maybe not a tesstarosa but still a ferrari

CooperS 18 September 2003 07:00 PM

There's one in Sheffield, It just looked wrong, I thought it might be an MR2, so I followed him, he saw me coming, booted it full bore away from a roundabout and covered my car in black smoke it was well funny, was totally knackered MR2 in there somewhere, I kicked his a$$! ;)

Then I saw him on a cop program based in Sheffield a while later, he was stopped for having his fogs on, and he was saying about how the cop must have been jealous of people like him having a car like that, made me pi$$ myself laughing.

you mean these.....

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/mr2/photo%20club/deguine.jpg

http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~mca...s/ferrkit2.jpg

i have seen a yellow one in manchester and it shows straight away what it really isn't because the mr2 is too small and thin to get away with looking like a real ferrari

and 15k for one.....:(

Has anyone seen the monstrosity at Warrenders?

Not an MR2 Ferrari, dunno what it is, but it is supposed to look like an F40

It just looks... well .... really really bad

must have cost someone a fortune too

Duck_Pond 18 September 2003 07:47 PM

These are IMHO the ultimate in pants cars. For the money, you could get a real 328 or Mondial Ferrari.

They're usually easy to spot too, as they never seem to have the genuine Ferrari alloys on them. Plus, they don't sound right.

Bit concerning for the owner too... They say that men driving a Ferrari must be small in the trouser department... so what the heck does this say about these owners? ;)

kinky 18 September 2003 10:34 PM

Theres a kit based on the Pontiac Fiero which is quite popular.

There's a place up north that knocks them out. Pretty good by all accounts, especially the spider (but this was a few years ago).

K

Marky-San 18 September 2003 11:00 PM

I think they'd be more popular if they werent tagged with the Ferrari image.

I personally quite like them - but dont like the Ferrari badging as it wasted the effect of an otherwise good kit.

Anyway, I have a Lambo kitted Mondeo on my driveway LOL!!

kenny.c 19 September 2003 01:53 AM

i think they look great, provided you dont badge them a ferrari........if i had one i would have it badged a toyota mr2 anyway.........

LG John 19 September 2003 07:55 AM

There was a fake Audi tt picture kicking around and it looked soooooooooo bad :D I really can't understand that, if you are going to copy something copy something good in the first place ;)

Woz 19 September 2003 08:50 AM

but pug 206 fakes are cool....esp homemade ones

matt5cott 19 September 2003 08:58 AM

Bah I hate these kits, I like the looks of a standard REV5 better to be honest, but I would say that... ;)

If you must stick bits of plastic all over it then put the TRD 2000GT kit on :)

Dream Weaver 19 September 2003 09:15 AM

That black one wouldn't look too bad in its own right, i.e. if it wasn;t pretending to be a Ferrari, with Ferrari badges etc.

If it was just an MR2 bodykit, then it would look OK IMHO.

philz 19 September 2003 09:28 AM

Personally I think that a standard MR2 looks nice enough and doesn't need a fake Ferrari bodykit. As said above, if you must have a bodykit then get the proper TRD one cos at least it keeps the lines of the 2.

Just add a nice set of alloys like me and that's all you really need :)

Andy
I saw that program, and that was a real 355 that was pulled...

Cupramax 19 September 2003 09:50 AM

Hmm, not usually into MR2's but that one looks very nice. A guy that lives near me has one of the Ferrari kitted MR2's and they really do look kack.

Reffro 19 September 2003 10:18 AM

Sorry apjames but the car was most definitely a 'faux' ferrari. It was probably the best kit I've seen but it was a fake.

DAYZEE 19 September 2003 10:24 AM

The guy on the program who got pulled was an asian fella yeah?
It was fake.

matt5cott 19 September 2003 10:32 AM

philz : "Just add a nice set of alloys like me and that's all you really need :) "

Agreed! philz, what size alloys you got on yours? I need some on mine...

http://www.biggaybear.co.uk/mr/2side.jpg

The 15" toyota standards look ok, but they are buckled, and long story short I need some new ones! any help or advice appreciated here http://www.tekforums.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=34926 or email me as per profile :)

philz 19 September 2003 12:22 PM

Mine are 18" Kahn RSR's

215/35/18 on the front and 245/35/18 on the rear.

fatherpierre 19 September 2003 03:32 PM

You've got a sorted looking motor there Philz.

My rev3 T looked just like yours.

Almost wish I'd have kept it now..........

philz 19 September 2003 04:05 PM

Sorry apjames but the car was most definitely a 'faux' ferrari. It was probably the best kit I've seen but it was a fake.
Yep, you're right. Have you seen the size of the rear spacers he has to use to push the wheels out far enough!!!

kenny.c 21 September 2003 03:12 AM

the rear pics look pretty convincing but whenever viewed from the angled front to rear side view the rear wheels always look squint.
Surely there's a way to remedy this.

kenny.c 21 September 2003 03:18 AM

just noticed the pontiac fiero based f355 kit looks more realistic than the mr2 kit.. go to
www.btinternet.com/~adefadero/kitcars.htm

[Edited by kenny.c - 9/21/2003 3:18:44 AM]

DAYZEE 21 September 2003 03:22 AM

A Pontiac Fiero was actually used in The Rock. Whe Nick Cage jumps out just before the 355 is crushed. Its a 355 he jumps out of but its a pontiac they wreck!! And quite rightly!

CooperS 21 September 2003 02:21 PM

Yeah it was defo a fake and the same one that I raced, same bloke and same plate.

Andy

R1916v 21 September 2003 04:02 PM

I agree with some, nice enough kit as long as not badged as a ferrari.

The rear 3/4 on the kit looks suberb imho.
