Just wondering what you guys think of Falken Tyres? The Cosworth Boys think there great.......?

Hands down the worst tyre I've ever used.

I went through 6 in 3 months, sending two back to Falken in the UK for inspection.

I had 5 of them crack on the inside edge, one so bad that it blew the whole inside of the tyre wall out, and made for a very interesting journey to the hard shoulder on the M25.

I am still in dispute with Falken at this moment in time, so obviously can't go into too much detail, but wont be using the product again in a hurry!

They fall apart!!

I know a bloke who owns a couple of tyre dealerships and said loads of people were having problems with Falkens when used hard!

He recommended Kumho Ecsta tyres for my cossie.

They sponsor quite a few racing championships and so far (1000miles) they're pretty good.

Not quite the outright grip of the Yokos I had before but a more progressive slide tho!

my m8 gives them a very hard time
the edges are bald beyond belief cos of hard cornering.
but hes also dun 145mph many a time in them no probs

I had some on my wifes escort cab and they wore out very quick

The 502's aint owt special, I've had these in the past, but my mate runs 512's on his RB5 and rates them!

My mate had them on his car and they were well dodgy in the wet.

Cossie people seem to rate the goodyear f1's and toyo proxes.

Having had both of the above i can confirm there both good.

I just got Toyo Proxies T1-S great tyres. Wear well and very grippy.

Got them from www.topgear.co.uk for £240 delivered.

I binned the almost new Falkens on my Impreza and replaced them with F1's.
The F1's seem to suffer from a lot of flex but are miles better than the old Falkens in the wet.

It depends on which model of tyre you're talking about. F451's are very highly rated in club saloon car racing - over toyo's, F-1's, etc - they seem to be the tyre of choice from the MSA 1A list. They only come in 16" upwards though...

There is a similar thread in WBT at the moment, apparently (according to it) Falken are part of Dunlop.

However i do not like Dunlop tyres much either.

I would shop around on prices, try a few fitters, 1/2 hour on the phone could save you £££''s.

I would go for Toyo Proxies or Goodyear f1's although i have not tried the latest verion, the GS D3 model.

Last time i brought the goodyears for the Scoob i paid £ 80.00 per corner inclusive of everything.
I put Toyo's on the Puma and they where around £ 63.00 per corner form an independant tyre fitters, add 30+% for a mainstrteam fitters.

Well I'll stand up for them...

I have a set of 451's on my GTR (a 500+bhp car running 275/30/19's)

I've found them to be predictable in the wet and dry (though perhaps lacking ultimate grip of F1's). Wear seems even and they don't tramline (unlike some 'better names')...

Anyway my garage recommend them for skylines and fair few other GTR owners fit them. And Falken run an R34 GTR in endurance racing.

Its probably worth adding that I've never had the budget type falken tyres (502/512's), but the FK451's/GRB's.

Can't get Toyo's in my size and i don't want to play around with this or that. Got a good price on a pair of Yokohama's A529.

i had the falken grb's on my civic ...must say i liked them very much...........then tried the falken ze-502 which were'nt so great
after i got my frist scooby....i used the fk-451's which are great in the wet and dry but twice the sidewalls caved in.....so unless falken has improved on the build quality then i would steer clear of them.......a mate who used to work in a car accessory shop comented that he had several return's on the fk-451's from the side wall collapsing and had to get the falken rep up b4 they would issue a refund. Using p-zero's now with no probs at all.

I got two free when I bought my wagon (now long gone and replaced by STi) I put them on the front with Potenzas on the back, probably not a good idea to mix them but the rears were still good.

The upshot was that understeer in the wet was awful, actually dangerous, in the dry it was OK but as soon as the rears needed replacing I put four Potenzas on and gave away the Falkens, actually I swopped them for a hat :D
