People opinions appreciated, I currently own a Clio 172 Cup which is massive fun, but Ive just turned 25 and can pretty much afford to insure most cars, should I sell up and buy a WRX STi 6 Type R V Ltd or stick with the Cup.
Have any of you people done similar and are you happy. |
WRX STi 6 Type R V Ltd or stick with the Cup |
Sort of done this if you count a P1 as almost an STi v6.
Owned both a P1 and Cup together for about 9 months. Heres my view on changing Pros STI is a proper performance car IMHO - unlike the Cup and std UK scoobs Feels alot faster Requires much less effort to drive quick Better long distance looks image? etc Cons Sti is much costlier to run - insurance and fuel as well as spares costs - never got much above 24mpg in my P1 and dropped down to around 15mpg if pushing it. Average MPG on the Cup fuel computer this morning over the last 4k miles was 42.3mpg. Cup is more fun at slower speeds Cup is easier in traffic P1 was a pain in stop start Cup is lighter and more nimble round mini roundabouts/urban roads STi is a target car - got fed up being pulled over by plod in the P1 Cup doesnt suffer from Scoobs deteriorating image. Which is best all round - well it depends what you're looking for but I still own the Cup. [Edited by wilf - 9/16/2003 1:37:32 PM] |
Cheers people for the positive feedback, wish I could afford both motors.
Ive got to admit the Cup is a major laugh, if only it had air con, I may just modify the cup for a bit more straight line perfomance and save for the Scoob, I suppose another 12 months wont kill me. Nice one |
I went from an STI4 to a new 172 Sport earlier this year , at first the clio seemed great but I really do miss the performance differential now. The clio is nimble and still fun but the scooby was awesome.
In the wet the clios just spins its wheels in first gear if you accelerate hard ,the STI just used to dig its tyres in and accelerate. I am in fact contemplating moving back to a Scooby now .I do miss that punch from behind from the power. The one thing I dont miss is the fuel costs to keep the scooby , mpg was really low and having to find optimax all the time wasnt fun. The clio on the other hand rarely drops below 34 mpg no matter how hard I seem to drive it .Plus I got over £200 back on the insurance. its horses for courses, but if you want outright power go for an STI the difference is really big. The cup isnt really much different in performance terms to the 172 sport so I still reckon you would notice a big difference. |
owned a string of impreza's bought a cup for 1 month, sold it bought another wrx, case closed! cup is a great little nippy motor, too light too twitchy, & not big enough for pushchair baby seat & mini met's toys :) great little track/backroad scratcher hatchback for cheap motoring though
