any one know any people that Turbo up Triumphs?


cheers, coz i ve just cracked a great deal.

Doubt anyone does off the shelf turbo conversion, but a lot of companies would turbo it for you.

An engines an engine in respect to turboing a n/a car (well fuelings a bit swings n roundabouts depending on the type of fueling, your on carbs which can be a problem as a lot of std and aftermarket carbs cannot handle being run under boost pressure), anyone who can do it to one car should be able to do it to another, all depends how much power u want, how much u wana spend, and how capable/strong the engine is.

No company will do it on the cheap tho. And surely the cars not worth spending serious money on? Is it? (unless you LOVE TR6s obviously and wouldnt like somthing else)

If youve got the knowlege itd be a fun DIY job.

But then again unless TR6 engines are mega strong, can rev high, and the heads can potentials flow huge amounts (ie the 3 things have the potential to make a big big power turbo engine), id be tempted to bung a different engine in altogether, an 302ci ford v8 is cheap as chips to buy and mod, and a simple twin turbo conversion on that would give you 500bhp and similar or more torque... (or for a grand or so n/a tuning can give 350bhp from it and then can chuck 200bhp of nitrous on it too).

Give some more details on what performance u want, and what u can spend, and also if u REALLY dont want another car, and could help a bit more.

DIY on obscure things like this helps LOADS in the cost department, but u have to know exactly whats what otherwise youl get nowhere. Can make mental engines from bits you can get from the scrapyard, belive me, ive done it many a time.

I only want to run low boost on it so i dont hurt anythng.

was thinkin of getting a MG metreo turbo or 414si (?) turbo and using that.

Back in the early 70s, a UK company (Shorrocks) used to do bolt-on supercharger kits for the Triumph straight-six motors. 50% extra power & torque straight out of the box, just needed bigger carbs.

Might be easier to fit a 'charger than a turbo, as you only have to plumb in the intake side, you don't have to fabricate an exhaust manifold etc etc.

Problem would be actually getting a suitable supercharger, I can only think of the VW G40 / G60 that use them, and the VW boys will have first dibs on them ....

Do you think your Rotoflex couplings can handle much more power? ;)

IIRC, the tried and tested method of getting more power in the GT6 is to add either the 2.5L 6 out of the TR6 or Triumph 2500 or even the good old Rover V8. Probably cheaper and certainly more reliable than turboing the existing motor.

Is your GT 1.6 or 2.0?

renault solex turbo carb(re-jetted), renault fuel pressure reg, cossie intercooler, custom pipework from a hose supplier, rs turbo blower with saab exh housing, biggest prob would be manifold i reckon.
