Hi, Have just read in our local paper about the areas first attempted carjacking and was thinking of activating the 'auto-lock' feature on the Std Sigma alarm (I have a copy of the Sigma alarm manual). Has anybody activated this on their MY03 yet ? Sounds like a good idea but what happens if the car is started with a door left open ? and how does it unlock (does it lock with the double dead lock - which can't be openend from inside !). Any info would be good before I lock myself in the car !!!
Thanks.

Just activated mine.
If door left open it wont lock, you need to do it manually.
It wont double lock its just the door locks, when you turn the ignition off the doors unlock. Hope this helps.

Turn it on!

As above, it doesn't deadlock, and it won't attempt to lock if one of the doors is open :D

Thanks for the info....

I will activate it then !!

WHATEVER YOU DO!!! DONT - Start your car, close the door and go round the front of the car to check if your lights are working properly. Did this recently and had that god awful feeling when i heard "CLUNK".

Engine running, keys in ignition, DOORS LOCKED!!!

Luckily i was at home so i just went and got the spare key to open the door. DOH!

Funny that I never got a spare with mine

Boro 21 September 2003 12:03 PM

Get one :p

e02923 22 September 2003 07:38 PM

And I was worried about getting locked IN !!!! Didn't think I would get locked out !!! Good point though....

I have activated and it seems to work well... I NEVER, EVER get out of the car and leave it running anyway - Not even in my drive !!! And I always take the keys with me...

Hey... I am not paranoid !!!!

Boro - I never quite worked out how that could happen with the autolock thing...

In car, door open, start engine = no locking.
In car, door closed, start engine, open door = doors unlock.

Either way, the car doesn't lock itself if you subsequently close the door...???

I have activated this on mine but am a bit worried. If I shut the door and start the ignition then it locks the doors and they can't be opened except by turning ignition off or using the button on the drivers door. Is there a way to make it lock the doors but, say the passenger, can open with the handle on the inside?

I'm a bit worried about having an accident and not being able to get out.

Thanks for any help

Dave

Dave,

In short, no... The doors aren't deadlocked though, so you can flick the individual lock button on the door that you want to open. I would always advocate turning on auto-lock.

I did read somewhere that doors unlocked in the event of an accident, but I really couldn't say where so check with someone who knows what they're talking about :D

Cheers,
Nick.

I have had this activated for a while now and it works well. Each door CAN be opened individually (Even the back). I did find that they were a bit stiff but they DO open.... Not sure if they open in an accident.
It does give you a more secure feeling and I feel happier about the wife driving the car.

Isn't it easier to remember to use the Lock button on the drivers door when you get in the car? That way there is no risk of locking yourself out of the car. Or am I missing something?

BTY I'm not taking the p*ss.

e02923 30 September 2003 10:32 PM

That's the point.... You have to remember to do it !!!
When I first got the car I tried to make a point of locking the doors - But I never did !!
Now I don't have to think about it !!!

Paranoia is a good thing after all! It gives a new meaning to the old saying “Clunk, click every trip”. ;)

Pudge 01 October 2003 01:15 PM

Use my autolock all the time now saves thinking about it and does make you feel more secure.

I have never had it lock me out though. Is this a classic scoob problem that has been rectified as I have a bugeye.

Pudge.

gareth 01 October 2003 04:38 PM

Have used this on both classic and bugeye and never been locked out. Like I said in my earlier post I must be thick because I can't work out a scenario where I would get locked out.

Most decent cars have this set up by default these days...
