Currently looking at the above and seen a couple with nearly 90k on the clock. How soon would I expect big bills with this mileage and should I hold out for one with more like 70k for example to avoid paying out loads on servicing in the next year or so (I do about 10k a year)? Any advice much appreciated.

90k isnt a lot for an M3 provided its been properly serviced. As its a non-evo, you dont have to worry about VANOS failure, and the engines are very strong and reliable. Bargain hard as these cars just aint shifting at the moment.

Why not spend the extra and get the evo....not a hell of a lot more cash....

p.s

My BMW is on 127k.....runs like it was new..

Apparently the M3 Evo 100K service is around the £1000 mark, as it is a Engine out job. But that is what i've heard off a couple of people. So may or may not be true......
Hence you'll see alot for sale around the 90k mark....

I could get an EVO M3 but you're usually looking at about 2-3k more and the double VANOS problems really seem much too common for my liking. Anyone owned an M3 EVO and not had this problem on their car or seen it in the car's history?

My VANOS went twice but was covered under warranty. Apparently after the second time, the dealer fitted some new type of bolt which prevented the gearing from failing. Don't know whether it was true or not because I got rid of the thing a few months later.

Try going to a BMW main dealer and asking what he would give you for it as a trade in.

Would go to underwriters for £4k

My Cousin used to have a M3 pre evo (3.0 L)... it was awesome and in 2 years of ownership all he had to do is change a light bulb and usual servicing..... His one had 80 k on the clock and was like clockwork.

best car ive been in and much better/quicker than a fiat coupe IMHO of course!
