Help!
Looking at a plasma screen telly or a decent widescreen, but I cant decide.... I can get a very good 36" widescreen for £1600 ish online & a decent home cinema kit for say £600... But the attraction of a Plasma is still there :( Sell me either way please lol cos I cant make up my damned mind :( Cheers! |
If it's going in a corner, get a CRT, if it's going in the middle of a wall then get a plasma.
|
its for a corner :)
|
get a CRT. The depth of the things is masked by being in a corner, plus you need some depth for the VCR/DVD etc.
You could always look at projectors. You can get a panasonic AE200 for about £750, and knock up a screen for £30 from blackout material. Combined with your home cinema, that'd give you an 8ft widescreen for less than £1500 all in. Its surprising how cheap projector setups are. |
Go LCD
|
Plasma pictures I've seen look wooly compared to my Wega:confused:
|
Get an LCD
:) |
looks like a decent widescreen then :)
Went to look at a Panasonic today as everyone was raving about it & think I will be buying it :) |
mrklaw - you seem to know about projectors mate!
Really fancy a cheap one in the bedroom - would be a working in a dark room and would need only RGB (TV RGB not laptop RGB) as an input - 16:9 mind. Have an audio amp and speakers already. Could I just paint the chimney breast between the wardrobes a nice matt white, hang it above my pillow and get projecting :) Cheers for any advice! D |
Before you decide, have a look at a Philips with Pixel Plus and Digital Natural Motion. It's probably the best picture CRT you're gonna get. They do them in 32" Nicam (which is better for people with a seperate surround setup) or a 36" Dolby Digital which has all the gubbins thrown in.
I saw these at the Home Entertainment exhibition and they were miles better than anything on the Sony stand. [Edited by MJW - 9/13/2003 7:06:47 PM] |
plasmas are fine but very blocky when sat in a living room, LCD very good very expensive!, stick with a 36 vega sony NS200 very nice crt!

I've got a Phillips 23" lcd tv in my bedroom and the picture is really good,it also has a built in radio which is a nice feature.Alan.............

Go for the plasma and get flat panel speakers to go with it. ;)
A corner isn't the best place for a telly if you're going to go for a full 5.1 Audio set up. You need to think about where you're going to put the speakers too. (unless you stick to the tellys own ones) |
CRT......once the novelty of a Plasma has worn off you'll have ended up paying xxx quid extra just to save a few inches in space.
Unless space is at a premuim. |
