Was looking at getting myself one of these little gadgets :)

1) Would I need anything else, apart from the GPS software, to be able to use it as a GPS unit in my car? How does it connect etc??

2) If I was to get one from the states and have a friend send it to me would it be any different to ones here in the UK? Get it cheaper you see :)

£) Anyone recommends a good one?

Thanks very much!

Here is mine

Mine is a 3760, with CF Jacket, running Tom Tom navigation Software & Trafcam, speed camera Database :)

The only thing I needed was a GPS receiver, and a cradle dash mount, both from ebay dash mount a tenner (buy it now) and GPS Reciever about 80 quid (buy it now)

Ah thats the idea! camera data base hey!!! I like the sound of that :)

Do you find it works well?

Ah didn't look at DELL. Just had quick look now, they are cheaper ain't they!! must be a reason for that? Think I prefer the look of the Compaq plus if I get one from the states it will be around same price as DELL.

Will there be any difference in one from the states to a UK one?

I have an O2 XDA connected through my Road Angel

Same result... and no need for camera locations on the map ;)

Burr when did you get an XDA ?
:)

sonic how do you get on with the trafcam software??,

im just about to buy a ipaq with tomtom2 etc from ebay.

IIRC re Axim vs PDA - the Axim requires swapping out of CF and SD cards if you want things like wireless and bluetooth whereas the latest iPaqs have those built in. I did do a costing a while ago and there wasn't much in it once you'd added the extras.

Anyway I've had a idea  - we have some blue tooth dongle things which I wondered if I could attach to my Road Angel so it can talk to a bluetooth PDA without hard wiring ?

Not sure if the RA would be a bit basic to handle this (and something is saying USB in my ear) but I reckon it'd be a winner (first divs on the royalties :D )

Would an Axim connect to a road angel, what cable would be required? How much is the TomTom software?

Could anyone explain how to use the Road Angel with a PDA in detail

What have I got to buy, how do I connect it and which software to use.

Pictures would be nice, I am sure that I am not the only one wanting to know this

Anyone ………………………. BuRR ……………………. Anybody please

The AC Adapter used to charge it will be 2 pin instead of 3 pin for the UK.
Still attempting to get mine changed coz i didn't think of that before i bought mine  Doh!!

The Dell's maybe cheaper but they are like a brick when compared to the 2210 and run PPC2002 whereas the IPAQ 2210 runs PPC 2003. The 2210 will be faster and as someone else pointed out has CF and SDIO built in (Dell's are SD not SDIO)

Can't ya just get a travel plug adaptor thingy to use for the charger?

So which one of these would you guys recommend then? (probably go for an Ipaq model)

gregh 16 September 2003 10:49 AM

If you don't need the CF slot or bluetooth & need SDIO get the 1935 $199 in the US with a $50 rebate.

If you don't need CF and need bluetooth & need SDIO get the 1940

if you need CF, SDIO, & bluetooth get the 2210

Be REALLY clever and buy a DELL Handheld!! Save yourself a fortune!! THEN you can buy a front panel for your wireless!! ;)
