Got castrol Syntrax in mine, did an excellent job of curing a seemingly dodgy gearbox. Other people reccomend the Redline stuff but i have not used it so can'y comment.
You can get the castrol Syntrax 75W-90 from Halfords although it is very expensive from there or online from castrolclassicoils.com
You will need about 3.5 to 4 litres depending on the gearbox size, some years differ so i have heard? Mine took about 3.75 litres and yes you do have to fill it through the dipstick hole.

Dan.

thanks dan for that but can anyone confirm this the right oil for a 95 wrx as I dont want to risk harm to box/clutch

Use a quality 75W-90 fully synthetic. Front diff and gearbox=4litres. Fill through the gearbox dipstick hole. Rear diff is .8litres approx.
