I'm going to buy a boost gauge. Now what I would like to know is.....Is it worth spending £100+ on a blitz etc,or will a £40 gauge just be as good? ( Power engineering, Nomad etc ) Give me some info boys.
Cheers Steve. |
In general, the more you spend, the more accurate the gauge will be, If you only want it to look at, buy cheap. If you want to use it to help tune, buy dear.
Have a look at Defi stuff: beautifully made, looks the dog's danglies, and has loads of features not found on others, such as replay, and user set peaks etc. NOT cheap though. Check out Scoobymania. Alcazar |
just slightly disagreeing, our gauges are priced at the middle of the range market, they are calibrated to plus/minus 1% of the total scale, sometimes you do pay for the name but with the likes of greddy, apexi, blitz etc you do get recall etc, so it all depends on what you want, if you do track days and like to see what your boost was on the previous lap then go for the top stuff.if you just want a gauge to keep an eye on your boost level then get a cheaper gauge. cheers nomad

I found that the Autometer boost gauge was more accurate than the defi boost gauge. YMMV.
|
I found my HKS more accurate than DEFI as well.
|
Fekk off.............oi love my Defi!!! Arsss, Drrrink!!!
:D: Alcazar |
DEFI's look nice, there can be no doubt!
It's just that when your happy driving along with the HKS's and your reading 1.4 bar boost and your all happy knowing all is well, your DEFI's are reading 2.0 bar and your filling them pants faster than a jug of water poured down the front can! :D:D:D:D:D I only bought HKS cos they light up blue tbh - otherwise it would have been the DEFI's ;) |
Well my Defi is reading 0.1 bar over at a boost level of 1.4bar, giving me 1.3 bar.
And that's from someone I trust! Alcazar |
Have you seen this thread
thread dont know if its the kinda thing you're after though Steve Steve Maybe have a communial fit at say old comet , malin bridge :) [Edited by big500 - 9/22/2003 10:21:52 PM] |
Sounds like a plan Steve, although I've just ordered a gauge and pod from GGR! Still up for meeting up though once mi new gauge arrives. What you like at fitting PIAA driving lights? Been waiting for ages for some of these to come up on here with no luck so I've just ordered some new ones as well. Mind you our lass doesn't know!!! Are you going to try and make the S.Yorks meet on the 1st or 8th of Oct? I'm gonna try but don't know mi shifts at work just yet.
Cheers mate Steve. |
Are the PIAA lamps HID or halogen bulb ?
Never fitted any but hey can't be rocket science ( i'ts only a matter of getting the electrons down the wires  Whats the old lamps ? and whats the drivers side like ? (f****ng stones) seriously if you want a hand to fit them drop me an email Steve |
p.s. I've ordered boost , oil temp , oil press and AFR from the group buy so I recon I'll be fitting em as soon as
1.- they arrive :) and 2. I get myself a triple 52mm centre pod and an A post pod Steve p.s our lass dont know either..... so don't tell her [Edited by big500 - 9/23/2003 10:44:23 PM] |
As for the meet it depends ....Oct 1st=my birthday so prob gettin p**sed. And I'vo only just got her running right due to an overboost problem that I 've had.
Dont really fancy caneing it untill I have done oil/filter plugs and cambelt change ( all imminent in coming weeks ) Mondays project is to fit a new heater matrix ( hands like an ex you've been framed presenter required ) Isnt there some sort of meet at Carbrook on 1st mon in Oct ?? I'll watch the thread on the meet and may see ya there or maybe catch u down the boro ? Steve |
Send us your E-mail Steve, and as soon as mi stuff arrives I'll drop you a line. Got to be carefull or I'll get moved to another forum but the current lamps are standard ones, in pretty good nick.
See ya later mate Steve. |

Even my wife noticed when I fitted 3!!!:D: Alcazar PS: fitting driving lights is a piece of p*ss: I can do you some instructions if you get stuck. Are we talking classic or new age? Point taken Al , she'll know when the delivery arrives ! but that should give me 4 weeks to soften the blow (- nice meal few drinks and btw spent 200 quid on some little white clocks for the car love )
Hardest thing will be getting her to understand what the gauges are telling her pmsl Steve [Edited by big500 - 9/24/2003 12:43:47 PM] |
Cheers Alcazar, There for the Classic shape MY99, I've already got a link from a previous thread but if I get into trouble I'll be begging for your help.
Cheers Steve. |
Owl: no probs mate.
Big 500: that's why I went to collect mine, then fitted 'em while she was away..................... She thinks they're "disracting" when she drives. That from a lass who put our other car on it's roof in a field:eek: Alcazar |
What was she trying to do? Reverse park? lol
Steve. |
Al , are you sure you didnt put one of them very practical Mitsubishi Roll / Elevation gauges in and she wanted to see if it was working correctly ?? :) :)
