I had my first Cossie [4 door saphire 2wd] for 6 weeks before someone borrowed it, it has never been founf to my knowledge, then family came so cheaper cars were needed, about 3 years ago I got another Saphire but this time 4wd, the car was getting to much attention from PC Plod and the local **** brigade, so I decided to get my 4 door WRX a little while back, so far the **** brigade dont appear to have noticed or worked out what it is, about the same power as the cossie, but owners are much more helpful/friendly.

Cheers

If I was born five year earlier, I would have got an Escort RS Cosworth http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

RoShamBo 11 May 2000 08:24 AM

Had an Escort Cossie (Black Lux Pack) as a company car several years ago for about a year.
I then bought a ProbeV6 (WHY???)
Had that for 6 weeks then changed for my first Scooby (back in 1996)
Not looked back since !
On my 4th now (WRX) & they keep getting better !! I just never get bored of the Scooby - I did with the Cossie - Still great cars though.

I've had RSs since 1975 (Mk 1 RS 2000 which I had for 9 years), a few Mk 1 Mexicos and a 3-door Cosworth which I kept for 11 years. I had to have a change, and since I insisted on driving up to Brooklyn (185 miles away) to have the car looked after I decided not to go the RS route since it was a lot of hassle and anyway all the Escort Cosworths are getting old.
I have had a WRX STi IV since last November and can honestly say I made the right decision. I won't keep it 11 years this time (the whole family got too attached to the Cosworth) but I do expect the next car to be another Subaru (unless my friend who sold me the STi can persuade me to take on his EVO V1!).

I have owned:
black G-reg RS Turbo
grey A-reg RS1600i
currently own G-reg grey RS Turbo with full
Bayjoo rebuild (see the car at most CCC, Gp B, RSOC or Castle Combe track days.)
Will be there at Silverstone national day.

Subaru Impreza turbo on order from a friendly Dutch dealer - 15k VAT paid.

Would have a Cossie Escort but:
1. IMHO they are over priced
2. Cannot buy one new

Scott.T 11 May 2000 08:37 AM

Had an Escort RS1600i for 5 -years followed by an Escort Series 1 Turbo in near Concours Condition for 2.5 years. It was so clean that I started to not enjoy it...Too scared of getting it Dirty.

Sold it and Bought a 93 WRX, a practical 4-door, go anywhere family car...Oh Yeh forgot to tell the wife it's got 240BHP....

A 3-door cossy was an option, but then I would end up in the same situation as the Series 1 Turbo.

TonyB 11 May 2000 09:10 AM

I had a real RS in the mid 80's - a Powder Blue Mk1 RS2000 (Dark Blue Stripe down each side) with a blueprinted motor, four branch exhaust, Cibies and sticky rubber. I loved that car!

Since then, a succession of mobile company sofas until I saw sense, opted out of the company car scheme and got the Scooby, which coincidentaly is blue, has a free flow exhaust, Cibies and sticky rubber!

harj 11 May 2000 09:34 AM

Ive still got an RS sitting on my driveway at home! Gonna try and move it soon as it was a part ex car taken over 2 months ago against my last Scoob.

Was looking for a Es Cossie the other day, a car that I could pump mega Horses through and use for events. Insurance Killed that Idea, Phone us back in 2 years please!

JohnS 11 May 2000 09:40 AM

I had a Mk1 Escort (not the RS2000) for many years before the tin worm infection made it cheaper to buy another car than repair http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I then discovered what reliability meant, when my next car would go for more than a few months without ever breaking down or needing some work done on it.

Always liked the 3 door Cossie, but could never afford one or the insurance at the time.

XRS 11 May 2000 11:00 AM

Harj,

If you had an RS and were in the RSOC you could take advantage of their insurance scheme. When I came out of it for the Scoob my premium doubled (from a mildly tuned Cosworth).
Might be worth a try, since track days are included in the cover.

Scott.T 11 May 2000 11:27 AM

The RSOC Insurance with - Domininon - won't insure Scoobies, or anything else for that matter.

I think they just specialise in the RS Marque. I tried when I swapped from a Series 1 to the WRX last month.

grief 11 May 2000 11:39 AM

I had an XR4X4 several years ago. Does that count ?

Crippling fuel consumption (18-20 mpg) made it a luxury I couldn't afford. Good fun powering through wet bends, watching the tail slide back into line.

Hankered after a Sierra Cosworth, then I got older (28), thought about a ST24 (as it was preferable to almost any BM), but went for the Scoob after I test drove it and realised it wasn't going to attract too much attention (a 5 door)....

Fullonloon 11 May 2000 11:51 AM

Had a Fiesta RS Turbo for a 15 months before the Type-R. Good little run around, never did anything to it. Incidentally, the chap I work with took delivery of the first Fiesta Turbo in the country, as a company car http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

"What car would you like?"
"A Fiesta"
"Pffffff, a Fiesta hahahhahahaha"

Needless to say, it was the car everyone wanted to borrow over lunch time. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Shaun 11 May 2000 01:09 PM

Had an Escort Cossie once....... but had to get shot of it due to divorce.

IMHO the scooby, which I have now (and every other car I have test driven since, ie pulsar's, M3's & Evo's), dont even come close to the awesome road and power capabilities of my old cossie!

Just to put you in the picture, it was producing over 320 bhp and 350 lb/ft (Powerstation proven!). It was very reliable on this conversion & never gave me any stick in over 10,000 miles!

This is the only car I have EVER had, that I NEVER got bored of. I know scooby owners think there cars are the best, but who out of all those people have ever long term tested a very sorted Escort Cossie before.....Then and only then, would I listen to your comments.

True they are overpriced, but what hell of a machine to have. Maybe looking to source anouther one soon, but good examples are getting harder to find. I am not sure I could justify a £15,000 car as a weekend car to replace my cheaper Scooby...... but I did before, so........

Shaun.

harj 11 May 2000 01:25 PM

Shaun,

Still dwelling on past memories hey! Don't worry mate. the way things have been happening recently, It may once become a reality again.

Im still looking into the Cossie Curse, I need more power, my Scoobies becoming a bit limited. Still might keep the Scoob though, It seems that Cossies owners are exactly the same, they are desperate for Scoobies as they are now the IN THING! You can't blame them, I have had no-end of people wanting to do part-ex's.

Some market data!

3! Renault 5 Turbo's (1 STD,2 155BHP)
Then RX7,XR4i,200SX (All STD), Next a
2WD Sapphire Cosworth, standard but consistantly showing 218BHP. Very very fast
in a straight line in the dry, but as for corners and wet, Mmmmm
After that a gorgeous 4X4 cossie sapphire
with 300bhp,70-100= WOW, BUT £2000 later, fixing things and it all got a bit
galling.
Bought scooby to get MAX GRIN PER £ have not
been disapointed even if it runs out of steam
on top end. How many times in real life do you get to do 120 safely these days.
For everyday driving the scooby is AWESOME

I had a Fiesta RS Turbo 1600 followed by a Fiesta RS 1800i, both good fun and nippy for their day.

The reason I swapped to Scoobys is that when I went to my usual ford garage (I.e the one I'd bought 4 previous cars from)to look at a second hand RS Cossie the jumped up little T**t of a salesman couldn't be bothered to take me for a test drive. He gave some excuse that I'd be better off finding out if I could afford the insurance first and then come back. I did go back 3 weeks later to show him my new (second hand) Scooby that I'd bought for 5 grand less than his offering and ask him how much commission he'd lost on the Cossie, which was still on the forecourt. Told him he could take it for a test drive if he could afford the insurance..... didn't seem amused http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Still in the long run I recon he did me a favour.

Cheers, Ian.
