We currently use Unix Tru64 for our DNS server which has a command "make hosts" to build the DNS zone files from a hosts file for us. We are looking to move DNS to a Redhat Linux server which doesn't appear to have a similar tool.
Any ideas on what I can use? I've seen lots of references to a perl script called "h2n" but can't actually find where to get it from? Cheers, James |
ftp://ftp.hpl.hp.com/pub/h2n/h2n.tar.gz for one place to get it. You might need some other bits as well. Can you not modify your resolv.conf to use the hosts file before DNS? I have no idea what you're doing though of course :)

Thanks for the swift reply. Unfortunately it's not just a case of changing resolv.conf as it needs to act as a primary DNS server for a couple of domains (forward and reverse) and as a forwarder.
Now I just need to trawl through the h2n docs.... |
DNS zonefiles couldn't be simpler, it's easy so don't worry :)

h2n is your friend
