How many miles?

PS Does the handbrake operate on the discs? or is there a separate drum & shoe arrangement? (Never had rear discs before :))

A word of warning, if you can do this yourself do so, if not get to somebody who can and get your rear pads checked out.
I removed my rear pads on my MY01 to replace them only to find that both the inner pads on both calipers were completely stuck and hadnt moved in gods knows how long, they where supposed to have been removed at the 15k service for inspection and cleaning but there is no way they have ever been out, the outer pad was worn but the inner ones had loads of meat left on them but the caliper was bunged up with all sorts of cr#p and i had to use a hammer to remove the pads as they were seized in.
When i cleaned the caliper up and installed the new pads the brakes are amazing again and i was obviously relying on the fronts only for any braking.

Dont rely on your dealer to do the work as part of your servicing as they obviously just look at the outer pad and presume everything is fine.

The handbrake should have a sperate pair of brake shoes inside the rear disc drum.
