Hi

Are there any members of SN living in or near Burley (Ringwood) in Hampshire??

If so wonder if I might ask a HUGE favour! I'm in Lincolnshire and looking to purchase an item I cannot get to see! wonder if someone would check it out for me and report back before I go ahead.

Ha ha Cocaine NOT!!

Actually I'll tell you what it is and intrigue you all.

There is a shop in Burley called A Covern of Witches, they have for sale a Victorian Green Lustre Witches Ball.......A huge one!

I've been trying to find one for quite a while now, no I'm not a witch! http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/witch.gifand they are considered lucky charms these days.

Only thing is I'm in Lincolnshire and it's in Hampshire and I need to see it before I chance the possibility of buying it.

The owner doesn't have facilities for sending me pics.......wondered if someone near by Burley might be kind enough to go photo it and send me the pics!

Right then, I've been and looked at it for you.

Unfortunately, they won't let you photograph the stock, so you're reliant on my powers of description.

It's plain glass ball about 11 inches in diameter (slightly larger than a football). It's a reflective metallic green colour, approximately a "sea" green (although I'm not good on colours). It isn't patterned, but the surface is lightly pitted. It hangs on a short gold chain. Imagine a scaled-up christmas tree bauble (no offence intended).

They have other colours the same size, and one larger one (about 17 inches) in a silver colour.

Tut, tut, the nice lady in the shop said she didn't mind photographs!

Anyway thanks very much Bashful! very much appreciated. Doesn't sound as if its worth the £145 she is asking and I specifically want an emerald green, ya know dark leaf plant colour!

Thanks a bunch

I'll photograph the sucker next weekend! Its a bloody mission now lol

bashful 05 September 2003 05:18 PM

Mr. Leigh,

Good luck. I was all tooled up for photography, but the shop assistant said they were worried about having their designs copied. (It's a featureless glass ball!). If you do get anywhere, good luck getting a decent picture - it's a very shiny piece, hanging from the ceiling in a rather dimly-lit shop.

Nick n Jewels 05 September 2003 06:21 PM

Mr Leigh.........Ooo cant wait!

When I rang to enquire about it the lady in the shop said it would be fine for someone to go along and photograph it for me. Tell her the lady from Lincolnshire who rang about it.

If she won't allow it how is she likely to sell it!

Its an 10 or 11 inch Victorian Green Lustre Witches Ball and priced at £145 so now you can see why I want to see it first!

See if you can find out what properties it has if they all have special ones! didn't know that. Shame Im not near I'd love to go and have a look

Jewels,

The green (and I think the blue) are general protection against sprits, whereas the gold was for use in a specific ceremony.

Nick n Jewels 07 September 2003 08:10 PM

Oh now thats interesting, must persue the various colours and properties
