Used to live about a mile from there.
The Waitrose is on a hill, meaning that the car park is at the lower side, at shop entrance level, while the loading bay is a good 20 feet higher round the back, at first floor level. If the truck reversed off to the right in the loading bay and went back a little bit too far it could well have fallen straight into the car park. [Edited by Steve V8 - 9/1/2003 8:31:09 PM] |
On second thoughts, just looked at the BBC Kent websiteand they say the accident happened on Ash Road, Hartley which is about 1/2 mile away from there. There is a sharp S bend on on a steep downhill that catches out many drivers, and if the lorry overturned here it could very easily crush a vehicle coming the other way.
Van driver killed, lorry driver injured........:( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/3198195.stm [Edited by Steve V8 - 9/1/2003 8:33:20 PM] |
Apparantely a waitrose lorry fell on a car....
Anyone know anymore about this? |
Is Waitrose on Station Road but at the junction with Ash Road?
Or is it somewhere in the middle of Station Road? |
It's about 250 yds up the road away from the junction.
