Why oh why are some people allowed on the road?

Driving down to Cheltenham for a geom set-up at Power Station yesterday and some complete t****r in an Omega made me more mad than I have ever been in my life. It wasn't that dangerous but the attitude really does make you wonder.

I am on a short dual carriageway on the A40 approaching Cheltenham and I spot this tw*t waiting to pull out a hundred or so yards from the point where the dual carriageway becomes single lane again, (just before the twisty hill on the outskirts). I am overtaking a VW Camper at the time but I see him from far off so I do not think too much of it. He pulls out, fine, he knows I am approaching so he can either

a. Floor it
or
b. pull out but stay to the inside lane so as not to cause a problem to either teh VW or myself.

Guess whats next?

He pulls out, straddles both lanes, blatantly to slow me down (I am at about 75 by this point, I take to the hashed area and overtake. No dramas and slow down as I am approaching cars further down the road going 40 - 45.

Mr red Omega pulls right up to my bumper straddling the double white lines as we go down the hill. You would think that I had pulled in front of him!!

Any way, I chill, I know that at the bottom of the hill there is a good overtaking opportunity, so at the appointed time I pull out to overtake the slower car in front and t**ser - w*nk face thinks he can overtake both me and the car I am overtaking ( at the bottom of the hill it is three lanes, 2 going up and 1 going down).

Obviously he didn't overtake me as at this point I floored it, but, whats the f***in point in trying? And then he tailgates again!!

Anyway, pissed me off at the time. I guess I should of just let him get on with it, but its not always that easy is it.

Stay safe, there are some idiots out there http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif.

Richard,

I can't fully explain, but i get a sudden urge to wash my headlights when a tailgater is close behind.

For some reason, they drop back (and put their windscreen wipers on) moments afterwards.

If they tailgate some more, i give my lights another wash until they get the message!!

Boomer ...

Now I know why you were behind me today http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif But I must admit I've used the headlamp washers for the same thing too, to be honest it's the only thing they are good for, certainly don't clean the lights http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

On a serious note it's the scoob that does it, I've had a few idiots since owning ours, they just have to get past you, they must go down the pub of a nite and brag about the scoob they overtook but then fail to mention they did on 2 wheels and a hub cap in second gear bouncing those valves http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

It's not just scoobs either, I reckon my Supe must have a big magnet attached to the rear bumper, as I can't think of any other reason why so many people are that close. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

That's a good idea about the light/screen washers though. I'd not thought of that... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

last time I had an incident like that was about 12 years ago in a Honda civic when a BMW wouldn't pass, just tail gated so I tried to leave him (not easy in a 1.5 Civic S against a 528i)when he did pass he pulled me for speeding !!!!
BE VERY CAREFULL WITH OMEGAS. BE VERY SURE !!!! plod loves em in ALL colours

Ian, Same sort of thing happened to me just a few days ago, dark maroon R reg' Omega came flying up behind me, then dropped back and did it again. Luckily I noticed the grille lights and extra rear view mirror. I'd also been caught speeding a few days before on the same stretch of road (A52 Derby to Ashbourne) and am now walking the knife edge that is 9pts! so i'm being extra cautious!

The police have no right in law to drive dangerously. Take his numberplate & report him to the police for dangerous driving. Get one back for the rest of us!!

Just to say thanks Boomer and Kev for the headlight washing tip. Used it today on some oik in a Metro, up my rear whilst singing away to his (valve-driven?) stereo. Worked a treat! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif That is a feature that I must have on my next car, if/when I ever change!

My last company car, a Vectra Sri had high powered headlamp washers as part of a winter options kit.
These were so powerful it must have been like going through a car wash behind.
Actually never used them for washing the lights, just warning the w*@#!*s behind not to tailgate, worked a treat! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

excellent idea!

Its very enjoyable reading these stories...makes you feel youre not alone in being hassled by tools on the road.

Very true about the Vectra headlamp washers.

Feels like you are going into a rainstorm every time you use the damn things.

I have never had to fill up a water bottle so often.

Anyone noticed the number of people carriers that hog the outside lane, usually driven by mid 30's suits? They just wont budge over, especially for a Scooby. I reckon they're just trying to assert their manhood by pretending to be quicker then a Scoob.

Since getting the new Scoob a coupe of weeks ago, all I ever seem to get is tossers wanting to dabble. Sometimes I'm in slippers mode and just want to pootle, so I must make their day when they burn me off.

barksie 11 May 2000 10:50 PM

Own a escort cossie and I dont know why but ever since I have had it I have had nearly every man and his dog tailgating me or just tryin to get me to floor it suppose its to tell mates that "my cars as fast as a cossie" etc I guess you scooby owners have had the same, but its starting
to get on my nerves now ( after 3 years)
even had one female driver in a BMW 318i
weaving all over the road on a dual carriageway so I couldnt overtake her! thats right! over both lanes if I attempted to overtake she would just pull out
in to the right hand lane, problem or what!
anyway, message to TR3 never mind the maroon
omega watch for the blue omega on the derby/notts border.(live in derby work in notts seen them both)

TR3 11 May 2000 11:25 PM

Barksie,

I've also been tailed by a red 'R' reg Omega in Ashbourne and got pulled by an unmarked purple Civic (searge's car)!!! on the Ashbourne by-pass, be careful if you're in this neck of the woods, something to do with the A515 to Buxton being used by bikers me thinks!
