any comments appreciated.

Not Pipercross, may as well not have a filter on. Found that on changing back to standard air box with green filter, gave better torque and feels a lot more responsive.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve. K&N filters don't appear to break MAF sensors or leave any gunk in the intake, although others may.

I only have (relatively recent) experience of the GGR kit (which is based around a huge K&N cone - much bigger than 57i). My motor is also modified with exhaust, samco hoses, raised boost and removed fuel cut.

I've found that the MAF misreads with this filter. This can be good as the ECU is fooled into underfuelling slightly and advancing the ignition a little, but both of these push you closer to detonation, especially with the increased heat-soak you get from the filter position near the driver-side suspension turret. Suffice to say I've had to drop my boost by 1psi to prevent det (I've got a knocklink and deltadash to monitor).

The plus side is despite running 1psi less boost, I've got the same midrange torque (due to more advance + less fuel) and from 5000rpm where the torque tails off rapidly with the standard airbox, with the induction kit it is held better (due to less restriction allowing more boost to be held higher into the rev range). These are all measured with deltadash road dyno.

Oh, and there's also the noise :D

Cheers

Simon

i have a 57i on my my99 - same as what you'd use - what would you like to know?

you can find most details on the search facility.

when fitting, take your time and make sure its nice and secure, also point the cone low down to the hole in the wing which you can duct to bring in fresh air...

If it was me it'd be a Green or K&N panel. Advantages of the 57i are nebulous to say the least.
