Hi all,

Have a Sony P800 at the moment but thinking about getting a Nokia 6100.

Would anyone who has one please just let me know there thoughts on them... any good/bad experiences etc.

Thanks

P.

Work colleague has one - fantastic phone.

Never had a problem with it, all the usual nokia functionality, etc. Good screen size, but small and light. Holds charge well.

Plenty of covers/games/tones/etc and can get the clip on camera attachment.

Would have had one myself at a recent upgrade, but the 7210 was free :)

super_si 27 August 2003 08:45 AM

7250i is free too :D

Diablo 27 August 2003 09:29 AM

Not on 02 its not :(

super_si 27 August 2003 09:39 AM

Thats funny because me and my best mate both have the 7250i O2 freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

:D

Plantie 27 August 2003 11:02 AM

Can we jump back on topic please.... not interested in the other phones... ;)

More views on this phone please :)

555-Shaggy 27 August 2003 12:39 PM

Amazing.. Had mine for 2 months and love it.. Best phone I've ever had.. Its a Nokia - therefore simple to use, lots of useful one touch thingamies to go straight to text and calendar instead of navigating menus.. Really nice and light to use.. A mate had mine for 5 mins and went straight out and got one...

Can not recommend them enough.

Plantie 27 August 2003 12:47 PM

Thanks for that, sounds good... the reason why I would like more reviews is that I had a ganda through some web pages and there were lots of good reviews but also around 10 really bad ones.... loose back cover that creaks, low battery life etc...

Hence why I would like more!! ;)

Steve Howat 27 August 2003 12:58 PM

I have a 7250 (free on O2 ;)) but the girlf has a 6100. It's a lovely phone. Nice, slim and light, easy menu's, good colour display and a great chess game to while away the hours ;) :D. My only gripe would be the creaky cover, I think it could get on your nerves eventually (even more creaky than the 7250 believe it or not ) but overall I would have got one instead of mine if it had been available then. One of the best nokias yet IMHO.

Plantie 27 August 2003 01:14 PM

Cheers... a solution to the creak is get a bit of blue tack roll it thin and long and place behind cover. Apparently works a treat. :)

As you can see I am doing my homework... been bitten by too many Nokia phones in the past.

Steve Howat 27 August 2003 01:56 PM

Sorry for the short thread hijack....

Diablo,

My phone was free cos I found a carphone warehouse offer for a 7250 free on another network and produced this to O2. They matched it (mind you, I've been a cellnet/O2 customer for 10 years now). They will match any offer if you are an existing customer and phone them direct. Just threaten to change, it's worked 3 times now for me :D

Incedently, I thought the 7250i was an Orange spec phone??!

Chrisgr31 27 August 2003 02:01 PM

The 6100 doesn't have Bluetooth which I now consider essential. Changing a phone is bad enough, but having to upgrade the car kit each time as well is a pain in the arse. Therefore solution is a bluetooth car kit, and a Bluetooth phone. Has the added advantage that the phone, laptop, and PDA can all talk to each other on Bluetooth as well.

super_si 27 August 2003 02:53 PM

7250i is different from the 7250.

I think its availble on most network. Its basically got a better screen n camera also more options n better browser

I have a 6610, and find the buttons to small, prefer the 6310i which had a much more positive feel.

Been thnking about the 6100 too but have aldso read some poor reviews re build and reliability...........could come down in price as well....

Plantie 28 August 2003 09:09 AM

Indeed Paul.

Thanks to everyone who has replied :)

Anymore?

Diablo 28 August 2003 12:17 PM

Ah...re the free 7250/7250i.

I was upgrading after 8 months with a 6510 - good phone, but I drop kicked it up the street.

Phoned O2, asked to cancel and got offered the upgrade to stay.

have to say, the camera thing is a gimmick for me (photography is a hobby :) ) so there was no real advantage to me over the 7210.

Overall, I'm happy with it :) but would have chosen 6100 if available.

Im looking into getting the 6100 for someone at work and have been offered it from two different people, one at £20 on voda 100+50 X network and the other FREE on the same tariff.

My bro-inlaw has the same phone and is very light with a good battery life.

paulr 29 August 2003 02:10 PM

Bought one today..........few questions..

1.Can you get extended warrenties to run after the 1yr one has run out?
2.Anyone know where i can get any LOUD ringtones for it(free preferebly).

Cheers...

dhorwich 29 August 2003 02:14 PM

The 6100 is very squeeky and rattley especially when your on the move and on the phone at the same time...

Dan:D

Plantie 29 August 2003 07:39 PM

Thanks Dan....

what type of squeeks??? is it just the back cover??

Anymore reviews?!

paulr 30 August 2003 02:39 PM

Squeaks.......what are you on about?????

Plantie..had mine a day now......

1.The ring-ring ringtone(whici i have set as mine) is pretty loud overcoming a problem i find on newer phones,ie low ringtone volume, missed calls.

2.The earphone volume is also good. One thing i've noticed straight away is the quality of the conversations.I rang a few people yesterday to try it out and both said the thought i was on a land line, the quality was that good.No hissing and very clear.

3.The ergonomics of the phone are very good, okay it is on the small side but you can do everything with your thumb, dead easy.Buttons good size and easy to use.A lot of thought has been put into the practical side of this.

All i want now is a good case to try and protect it.It cost me £200 from carphone warehouse, got £30 off just by asking.I'm also thinking about having an extended warranty (if they are available).I'd imagine it may be expensive to repair if it went wrong due to its small size.

As for all the wap, gprs features, not tried any yet. They werent the reason i bought it anyway.

Its up to you Plantie, but so far i'm happy with mine.

Plantie 30 August 2003 03:33 PM

Thanks Paul! :)

That was a nice review!

Any more?

P. :D

Plantie 31 August 2003 11:35 AM

*cough*

paulr 31 August 2003 04:51 PM

Here's a good site for accessories.

dhorwich 31 August 2003 08:36 PM

paulr,

You have only had it a few days..!

Plantie,

My bird has the 6100 and the rear of the phone ie the cover is squeeky... which makes it feel slightly cheap... and gets anoying when you on the phone while walking. Oh, and its only a few weeks old..

Plantie 01 September 2003 01:12 PM

Any more?

what would scooby do 01 September 2003 01:17 PM

I've had one for about 2 months (traded up from 6210)

It's just about the right size, has all the features I need (tri-band, polyphonic, colour screen)

Seems to have a much better signal strength than my 6210 had

Absolutely no complaints from me :D

paulr 01 September 2003 07:13 PM

Plantie.....get off that f*cking fence and go buy one you muppet.........:D...
