Hey everyone, new member here

What is the best blow off valve on the market for a subaru impreza turbo older shape, 97-99.

Ur thoughts plz
Thanx

Brewstaa 26 August 2003 08:41 PM

The best one is the one that Subaru put on it in the first place ;)

Seriously though, unless you REALLY want the noise of Psssstchh then don't bother. I fitted one to my STi8 and it started back-firing? and made it less responsive from lower revs!

Enough so for me to take it off :) And the Psssstch will get on your t!ts after awhile as well!

Do you want loud?

image doctor 26 August 2003 08:45 PM

GAY!

You will be captain camp if you buy one.

Everyone will know you are GAY if you have one fitted to your car.

Do what YOU like, ignore comments from the mid-30's confused people!:D

I have a Forge VTA one and it has a nice loud pssshhht! However, if you want to go proper loud, then check the HKS SSQ out - or one with a trumpet!

Sukhy 26 August 2003 09:22 PM

Yeah i was thinking something along the lines of HKS super sequential blow off valve, or the blitz blow off valve they both sound sweet. I also hears that group A dump valves r good for racing.

Brewstaa 26 August 2003 10:09 PM

If you want loud GGR stock GFB items from Australia and they have a volume control as well :)

And they are super-loud and come with complete fitting instructions in English :)

but trust me they are pants, and have absolutely feck all to do with making your car go faster and/or prolonging the life of your turbo!

Hi Sukhy

Friend had the HKS on his car and it sounded great. What car is it going on?

Jazz

Sukhy 27 August 2003 03:01 PM

It is going on my 99 uk impreza turbo. Oh and another thing which key mods shall i put on my car first, cause ive only had the car for a week.

Thanx

akshay67 27 August 2003 03:44 PM

you can get a metal STi chunk for your key - I think grahamgoode sell it? do a search.

EvilBevel 27 August 2003 03:52 PM

Brewstaa, is it me, or are you whispering in a storm ? ;) :D

I've tried for years to tell people to not bother, but to no avail. If it does pfwiet, it's great !

Best case, you have no performance difference at all, most cases, stuff goes wrong.

You want a snappier car ? Dump the dumpvalve, like most "GrpA" and "GrpN" Evo's do in competition.

It might put you on the never ending path of fitting a new turbo as well, mind ;)

Dumpvalves: why didn't we ever discuss them before on here ? ;)

PS: I heard blue is better than red, anodized of course.

I called Tsl Motor Sport and got a turbo smart blowoff valve for my STI8 and i have had no problems what so ever!

Its one of the best valves i have ever seen... much better than the baileys one i had on my 98 WRX.

They do them for the older scoobys as well!!

IT SOUNDS FOOKIN AWESOME!

Sukhy 27 August 2003 04:27 PM

Cheers guys much appreciated

CTRnutter 27 August 2003 04:39 PM

Sukhy,

I have the HKS Sequential BOV fitted to mine and it is very loud and full boost, albeit I have the HKS RSK as well which seems to make it even more so it does it's job too i couldn't care a less what some people say about it not effecting performance and it does, it ups the boost between gear changes so the boost is always there,

it works well, albeit some people think that the route i have gone is cra*

I thought this thread might have some real phnar phnar potential but you're all being so mature. :)

vash 27 August 2003 04:48 PM

phnar phnar ??????

Forgive me im blonde?? wtf does that mean :D

ragnarock2 27 August 2003 04:52 PM

from finbar saunders and his double entendres (viz comic sketch) BLOW OFF valve!

YorkshireRam 27 August 2003 05:48 PM

am i right in thinking that a BOV will reduce turbo stall and thus retain more boost pressure?

end of the day tho, most people buy them for the noise (you can get re-circ ones if you're just after the 'function') - i've got a forge twin piston BOV on my 200sx and it works and sounds well. deffo go for twin piston else you'll have problems.

EvilBevel 27 August 2003 06:00 PM

Nope, wrong.

1) your Impreza already has a BOV
2) an aftermarket BOV will just make more noise
3) it protects your turbo, but bleeds away useful boost

Phnar phnar ;)

Brewstaa 27 August 2003 06:15 PM

Evilbevel

agreed, Subaru probably only spent the odd million or so researching the technology, but hey what the fook do they know LOL :)

The thing you take off and replace IS a dump valve its just that the air is re-circulated hence dosen't go ppssstch!!!

aftermarket BOV's, all they do extra is go pssssstch and thats it don't expect anything else, and they may frig with your engine management system. Thats why some cars will only flame with a Dump Valve on hence more O2 must be getting into the system somewhere, only guessing there though ;)

If you want the noise cool, go for it :)

EvilBevel 27 August 2003 06:34 PM

:)

Millions... don't forget that cars aren't only made by engineers. Bean counters play a big part too.

If one would fit a sturdy turbo, one would not need a BOV. I *think* (famous last words) that most Cossies did not have a BOV as standard. The TD04L definately needs a BOV, as do most VF's

A BOV protects your turbo bearings, and ... that's it. It may also make your driving less "brutal".

This is not opinion, but can be tried by anyone. Remove your BOV (or blank off the relevant pipes) and your car will actually feel *nippier* without one - assuming you do decent gear changes (i.e. don't wait 10 secs to go into the next gear). Try it for half an hour, you'll be amazed. A BOV - recirc or not - is a band aid.

BUT : this might (or might not) shorten the life of your turbo. So be careful (don't try this at home ;) )

Theo (the BOV Basher)

Brewstaa 27 August 2003 06:37 PM

Blank off the relevant tubes and get chatter like a monkey on speed now thats a cool noise ;)

not sure how on a Scoob but it was a piece of pi55 on me cossie and that sounded awsome :)
