What affect does anyone know will my new de catted pipe have on the old squirt situation as I really dont want to drive it like my granny and since filling up have only done a few miles and the needle is starting to move already, I used to get 270ish per tank with std zorst, just wondering.

cheers guys

andy :D

270ish per tank wow you must be driving like granny

alanbell 26 August 2003 08:45 PM

I get less than 200 miles for £38 tank full??? alan.

fastfrank 26 August 2003 08:46 PM

dunno about scoobys but on my old MR2 once I had it decat'd it really ruined performance and increased the fuel consumption by 8mpg (moved all the power to top end rev range to). I was told it would need to have some professional tuning to dial out the cat so the engine ran properly.

andypugh2000 26 August 2003 08:54 PM

Well the scooob still has tons of poke low down and i must admit it was the best thing i have ever done to it, yes i know 270 per tank seems a lot of miles but my journey to work hardly ever involves changing gear of hitting hard boost, this figure was before the de cat but i cannot get an accurate figure yet as im enloying the new found power too much!! :D

Is full decat or just the d/p or the centre?

IMHO I noticed very little differnce with the centre cat removed (also K&N at the same time)

But I reckon with the full de-cat I've gained about 2-3mpg. Usually on a long run I get about 27-28mpg and that was being rather conservative with the right foot and last time I averaged 29.9mpg!

And that was'nt hanging about much either as I over-took a few convoys of caravans, got stuck in 2 jams on the motorway, and blasting down an empty dual carriageway before cruising back home at 85-90mph for 100miles. Overall journey of 321miles on 48.7 litres of fuel.

Also did a stint to Wales recently in which I do about 26mpg normally cruising. Did the same 2 weeks back with full de-cat driving like a complete loon on the way there (not saying how fast ;)) and was stuck for 1/4 of the journey back home at 40mph (learner 20 cars ahead) and crusied the rest. I did 27.3mpg - 203 miles on 33.8 litres of fuel

So I hope the above info helps. Sorry if the comparisons of cruising mpg vs "man on a mission" mpg. But they still show improved mpg.

My moto: sod emission....save fuel, and save global resources ;)

Oh and yes, I have to totally agree its the best Mod I have ever done to the car too. Far less lag, enough low down torque to not bother using the turbo (even in 5th at 40mph). And not to mention on boost improvement too.

It's much more driveable now.

Soapy Sam 26 August 2003 10:14 PM

I reckon about 1-2 mpg better, maybe because you dont need so much throttle to get the same performance????

andypugh2000 26 August 2003 11:06 PM

hi ali

done the full de cat straight away, very pleased with it and makes you wonder why the bloody things were ever invented in the first place, they may reduce carbon monoxide but create carbon dioxide but doesnt that contribute to global warming???

chrome 27 August 2003 07:59 AM

my decat has hammered my mpg..

(maybe its my right foot.. not the decat as such?- hmmm.... yeah ;)

but then if I was worried about MPG I'd buy a toyota yaris :D :D

(Been tearing around the peaks this last weekend and did a tank in 180 miles.. easily done.. )

scoobywagon 27 August 2003 08:20 AM

i have gained power and fuel consumption by about 5mpg by decating the down pipe only.

kwakman 27 August 2003 11:46 AM

Funny that just did mine on a 93WRX. 1st tank of fuel averaged 13 mpg, 2nd tank 15, 3rd tank 19 so back to normal. Yes, it was the fault of my right foot.

scunnered 27 August 2003 12:47 PM

On my car a full decat = 40 extra miles per tank full.

andypugh2000 27 August 2003 08:07 PM

thats answered my question then, lay off the wellie for better mpg, does anyone also know if it is likely to pass an mot with just the centre cat back in??
