My car is a 1999 UK turbo, totally standard.

I am experience a very mild chugging, almost like a mild flat spot as you accelerate toward the turbo revband, i.e from say 1500 rpm toward 3000rpm until the turbo comes in.

Its very regular, but just very slight indeed, but I notice these things! I put it down to the car being cold, but it does it when hot too. I am aware of the problems with the coil packs on these cars, but thought these only caused misfires on-boost.

Could there be one coil pack on its way out....hence the regular nature of the slight flat spots???

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

MY99s don't have individual coil packs on the plugs, so I'd doubt it. More likely you're heading for needing a plug change.
How many miles has it done?

It has 38000 miles, and has had its 37500 mile servie just the other week, but i think that might have just been an oil and filter service judging by the service interval info. I've just bought it you see, so not sure about when the plugs were last changed.

Any recommendations on good plugs....and cost???

you could be getting a small amount of surge in the turbocharger - where there's not enough air going through to get any 'useful' performance out of it i.e. it feels flat / dead at the revs you mention. I should think the rev range you mention is below the level where you start seeing boost come on

one characteristic of surge is a "chugging" noise / feeling...
