My 93WRX is starting to guzzle my fuel really badly, and when i pull up at a junction the revs go up and down quite abit then it calms down. Ive also been noticing a strong smell as if the car is running rich. Can some please tell me if its likely to be the MAF or the Lambda. Does cleaning the MAF sensor with brake cleaner normally work?

Thanks

Sounds like lamda to me, on a 93 it'l be tired anyway IMO, pluss the symptons you describe.
No doubt someone will back this theory up in abit, or otherwise!

Lambda definitely, probably :D
It's the cheap one to change anyway, and should really be changed every 30,000 miles or so anyway.
Then see how it goes after that?

Ok ill get it replaced ASAP. I got a price from Halfords earlier they reckon i was looking at £80 sounded abit steep to me, so i told the guy that and he knocked it straight down to £60 seems a bit dodgy to me. Does anyone know the cheapest place to get one and how much im looking at roughly, ive seen some people on here picking one up for £30, wheres that from?
Thanks
Chris

£30 should be possible.
Wouldn't know where from, though :) Not entirely sure which is the right sensor...

The Halfords "Universal" one is around the £30 mark IIRC, although you will have to crimp the old plug onto the wires.

Hi Chris,

Just wondering if the new sensor worked out for you. I'm having somewhat similar problems - with fuel consumption & misfiring.

The oxygen sensor was suggested on the following thread http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadID=248573

If you read this can you reply with your findings on price, compatability, is it solved - cheers.

Regards

Johny.
