I recently bought a snazzy matrix case with the motor driven front panel etc. It came with a power supply marked up as P4 (300 watt). To be on the safe side I installed my old PSU instead. Would the new power supply have been ok? It's a Mega Power PSU model CTX300WCE.

Output +5V 30A +12V 14A -12V 1A
-5V 0.5A 3.3VDC 14A VSB 1.5A

Guy in work (IT Dept) says it'll be just fine, rather a second opinion :)

it should be just about OK if you dont have lots of hardware stuff installed on the PC like extra HDD, cdrom drives, SCSI card, etc, etc coz 300W is a bit on the low side but it will work :)

I believe (but stand to be corrected) that the main thing to look for is the current on the 5V leg. My Enermax kicks out 46A on the 5V. Can't remember what sort of current rating is really required but might give you another thing to search for to narrow it down :)

Yeah, my 300 watt failed and I replaced it with one badged as Pentium 4 compatiable, the guy in the shop was reluctant to sell it me cos I had an Athlon, its just a PSU it doesent care wha its supplying juice to, just that it does not draw more current than the max rating and to be honest a lot dont actually make what they say, trouble is that after 2 years of hammer it was possibly prolonged high current draw that killed it but I can live with a failure every couple of years, cost 25 quid to replace.

Thanks for the replies, unless someone advises me otherwise I'll try it this week.
