Just seen a scoob with this wierd thing on the roof. It was like a sunroof opened the wrong way? You know like it was tilted at the wrong end? Forgive me if I'm being stupid....... Cheers Dave |
Its a air vent, same as the rally models me thinks .....could be wrong.
|
Only available on the Jap Import V limited spec cars. Originally was homologation for the rally cars, as the drivers need air vents, or something like that anyway http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
|
Sorry guys, you're all wrong! I have a V-Limited with this device fitted... It is actually a catflap... so you don't have to open the doors if you forget to put the cat out before driving off! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
|
Now im going to make my self look stupid , how would the flap round that way be any good as an air vent unless when in reverse??
...Ian |
Yep, you have succesfully looked silly. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
If you look, Mulder sad that it was like a sunroof opened the wrong way i.e. hinged at the back, with a gap at the front - much like the bonnet scoop. So when going forward, it would suck lots of air in. Much like the bonnet scoop. Feel silly now? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
Mulder.............Doh!
Ian in the first place............Doh! You can buy these as an after market extra from various purveyors of scoob parafinaliea (SP?) |

Ta Ta!

Beef,
I wouldn't say the roof vent "sucked" air in, surely a more acurate description would be that it channels (or diverts) fast moving air into the cabin? Moray |
Moray
Sorry to change the subject here, but you post for England or Scotland, as your name would infer. Only last week I was on the phone to GG ordering parts and the guy I was dealing with had to rush off to deal with a Moray. Was that you? And if you can afford to run a Skyline and post as much as you do, this leads me to deduce some things: a) You’re retired with a shed load of cash. or b) Your not retired but you still have a shed load of cash and a leased line and do hardly any work like me. and c) Your car must be unbelievable. Sorry if you feel this an intrusion but the guy from GG dropped the phone as if it was the Queen on the other line. |
While we are off at a tangent what is Mr S J Davies managing director of?? Nosey i know!

Moray[/quote] Surely the air is not fast moving, rather the vehicle travelling through it which 'collect' the air into the said vent, per se.....er, hold on Ian I'll get me coat and come with you http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
If it is the single/dual vents above the front seats, then they're the air intakes to cool the driver & navigator. They trade straight-line speed for the extra weight & power drop that comes with air-con. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
The old Le-Mans sportscars had similar, but much smaller vents on their side doors to allow hot air out of the cockpits (scoops on the front of the car allowed "cooler" outside air in). Occasionally, drivers would reverse the scoops so that they pointed forwards, to get more cooling in the cockpit. This extra cooling was achieved in two ways, firstly, the forward facing vents would suck air into the cockpit, then secondly the doors would blow off at high speed... And as for |
David
Like the song, good work fella. |
Yep, you're right. 'Sucked' probably wasn't the right word (unless you happen to be driving through Soho at the time http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif), diverted would be far more accurate.
I now also feel officially silly, and am now en-route to pick up me coat. |
Scott,
I am fortunate enough such that I could choose to run a skyline, instead of the scooby, if I wanted to... however it would currently be a bit of an old-mans car for me. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif I can post fairly regularly whilst working... obviously, the more work arriving, the less posting I can do... make of that what you will! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif As to GGR, I did enquire about some parts recently. IIRC it was on the Tuesday a couple of weeks ago... GGR have always been very good on the customer service front, in my expirience anyway. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif As to my car... I suppose it's acceptable, for the time being! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Blubs, Fast moving in relation to the vent. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Here, let me open the door for you! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif David, How long have you been waiting to pull that one out of the bag then? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Moray |

If I (read blubs) were to travel past your house at speed, your house does not move. Therefore, your house (or the air) is not moving fast in relation to anything. I realise that I am just as sad as blubs for posting this on his behalf, but hey, I'd only have to work otherwise! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Geezer Here, let me help you with that heavy coat |
Prehaps I should become a coat salesman.......... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
Blubs and Geezer,
Assuming you drive into a slight wind (5mph towards the front of the car) at a groundspeed of 40mph, the speed that air is moving _relative_ to the roof vent will be ~45mph. The air channeled through the vent will indeed be fast moving when it hits the driver, hence chilly shoulder ensues. Taxi for two? Moray |
PS: If the air is still, no matter what, what is wind?
|
A polite word for fart? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
|
|
Moray,
Ah! So know you change it to 'wind'. Don't try and fool us thickies with this ~, otherwise I may be forced to use this ¬ http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Anyway you said, "Channels fast moving air", so yah boo......anyway...Oh, taxi's here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif blubs ps Aren't I annoying? http://geocities.com/r337m0nk3y/net/rollsmile.gif |
blubs,
Don't forget fat too! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Moray, The vent is in fact moving fast in relation to the air, not vice versa, thus creating the illusion of fast moving air to the driver. And as for wind, well yes, you've got me on that one. Ah, I see my and blubs taxi has arrived. Won't need a coat today though. Geezer |
Blubs and Geezer,
Just to humour you further... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif From the drivers frame of reference, the roof-vent is essentially static and the air/wind is, indeed, moving at speed, hence my use of the term "fast moving air". http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif "... illusion of fast moving air..."? Can I have some of what your taking please? Go on, you've obviously got plenty! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Moray |
Hmmm,
Moray, I think you'll find that black is white, and vice versa, and any other argument you wish to twist around. You're not a politician are you? If you look at the figures, you'll clearly see that air speed has decreased in real terms since the start of this parliament http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Geezer P.S. Isn't Tony Blair a Jock too? Methinks a trend is developing here........ http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
