I think its had its day the poor old scooby, is being dismissed by people left right and centre due to spiralling insurance costs, crime and just the amount of fook wits now getting there hands on them!
Back when it all started it was the car to have but now people have different choices and aren't keen on the image!

Shame because it will never get the respect it deserves just vandalism from jealous fook wits!

NACRO 14 August 2003 07:44 AM

Thought we'd already done this one to death and decided that the only people who thought that were:-

People without the cash to afford the insurance, which in my case was £270 more than a Focus 2.0

That servicing costs are reasonable if you use a specialist

The image is still strong- you just have to make sure you don't kev it up

That a lot of the people decrying it either can't afford to continue owning one or will never be able to afford to own one.

Case closed.

Old_Fart 14 August 2003 07:49 AM

Cars don't deserve 'respect'..cars are there to be driven and enjoyed. I haven't noticed my driving pleasure diminish at all in 5 years of scoob ownership (well apart from the 5 months of bugeye driving *shudder* ;) ) I still go out on pointless, go-nowhere, drives in the country most weekends. If you've got a problem with the image then sell it and get an Audi TT, a 350Z or a Boxster.
In the past 5 years I;ve driven just about every sub-£40k 250bhp+ car to come to the market and I keep buying scoobs regardless.

Old_Fart 14 August 2003 08:53 AM

GaryK 14 August 2003 08:54 AM

Yep I dont agree, still has a strong image who says otherwise? People who come on here who dont own a scoob, so fecking what! I'm on number two and when I replace that it will be another one! They are still iconic and future classics, just enjoy!

TON3 14 August 2003 09:25 AM

Yes this has been done already, yesterday infact!

My insurance wernt even that expensive, 700 quid for my sti7 @27 yrs of age. And u do get respect coz ppl no what the car is capable of!

mutant_matt 14 August 2003 06:13 PM

You have to say, the insurance situation for many of us is getting pretty dire and the image is quite tarnished these days......BUT.....as long as I can afford it, I will continue to not care what other people think because everytime I drive it, I remember what is important about owning a decent car and it's got nothing to do with costs or image!!! ;):):D

Matt :)

Dspeed 14 August 2003 06:34 PM

people give me a hard time in devon because there are quite alot of scoobys down here. n they say they are common. the thing they dont seem to realise is that you notice, enjoy n remember every time you c one, nt many cars u can say that about.

D6ale 14 August 2003 06:45 PM

sick of hearing this

Turbo_Steve 14 August 2003 07:00 PM

If someone tells you they are common, then ask them if that because it is such a good car?

Scoobs make a lot of sense, regardless of image. And image means nothing: remember that most people will look at a BMW 318 and assume that the driver is "successful".

Scoobs offer a good compromise....lots of grip, good fun to drive, adequate power and enough room for the family. In fact the ONLY two reasons not to own are scoob are fuel costs and insurance (which isn't really that much for most 'normal' people who ring around - try privilege....they insure me when no-one else will quote me less than £2000) which are still less than most cheap "Supercars" (e.g. NSX, 300ZX, Skyline etc) and you get a lot more practicality.

Peanuts 14 August 2003 07:22 PM

GTI, done to death and now boring.
if you look to the top left of the screen there is a button called http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/images/Search.jpg
its a wonderfull thing, it means people dont post the same thing 5 times in a day:)

OllieC 14 August 2003 07:33 PM

I've just thought of something that could catch on ..... SIAG - Scooby In A Graveyard :D

Shark 14 August 2003 07:42 PM

I'm still very happy with mine :D so :p ;)

skoosh 14 August 2003 08:50 PM

One more thing, as a drummer and turbo wagon owner, how many other cars for less than 40k can you put a large drumkit in and still travel to the gig at supersonic speeds?

Yes you see planty of scoobs , that's only because the majority of people have only just realised what they were missing in the first place.

Plus, you don't see that many wagons either, still a scoob, but a scoob with a difference. ( although I like the saloons too).

Nuff sed.

Skoosh.

Scooby driver and damn proud !!!!!!!

Matt Classic 14 August 2003 09:57 PM

I cant see what the problem is. If your not happy with it sell it. If you are happy with it, then just get out there and enjoy it. Simple!

slasha 14 August 2003 09:59 PM

I don't know where this common thing comes from. Jelousy from people who don't own them i assume coz i don't pass dozens of Scooby's when out and about. Surely something like BMW's are common as you're guaranteed to see one by just popping out for a paper where as i can drive to Birmingham and back and be lucky to see 6 Scooby's. As the very old joke goes, "why are BMW's like a clitoris" etc........................

Leviathan 14 August 2003 10:18 PM

I can drive within a 20-30 mile radius of Plymouth (big city), all week at work and not see one:confused:
I saw a P1 today, first scoob iv seen in about 6 days.

mutant_matt 14 August 2003 11:17 PM

I've yet to see another STi(7/8) driving on the road......

kicked 14 August 2003 11:43 PM

become common?? yeah, you are seeing more of them, however, how many bmw's/mercedes/porshe etc do you see these days? f'ing loads of them and they were a prestige car, now they are rep/company cars! you still see 1000's of fords/vauxhall/vw etc everyday. they only thing is....you talk of seeing the scoob and never these other cars! reason...cos the scoob is worth talking about! :)

sg72 14 August 2003 11:56 PM

HEE HEE!

We're getting into an Internet bonding situation here folks.

Lets hear it for the Scoob!

On SCOOBYNET?

sg72 15 August 2003 12:57 AM

YEH!

Thought I'd posted on this one.

Seems Oh So samey!

NACRO 15 August 2003 07:52 AM

Impreza owners on scoobynet? I thought everyone on here owned some kind of boring turbo diesel with "real world performance and economy"-translation "I'm a skinflint who likes to think I'm saving money driving a diesel- while actually I own an ultimately slow and compromised vehicle"

Well I never, they'll be saying what fine handling, more than usually fast motor cars Imprezas are next.

GTI 16 August 2003 11:26 PM

Ok calm down I was just saying what I thought was true by recent posts obviously many of you disagree!
BTW no kids, and a 2002 S3, may have a look at the new 3.2 if I like it!
So yes can afford it! :)

mark.coleman 17 August 2003 07:41 AM

I think you have to remember that any performance car of it's time is going to depreciate not only in value, but in stance. This is not because there are idiots around who can afford them, which you could say about any car, but the fact that year by year they get cheaper, which opens it up to the marketplace more.

The fact is, the Impreza is purchased by all sorts of people, young and old and the exact same thing happened to the Escort RS Turbo, back in the late 80s'.

The reason the RS Turbo was so popular and I must say, still popular amoung stern followers today, was that it appealled to young and old and that is why it hung around so long.

What we are now seeing is the younger generation, as what I did, buying a performance car that they can afford, tart it up as if in "Fast & Furious" and make many people cringe.

It's the same full circle and I'm sure that in time the Impreza name will go down the drain like names such as Escort & Sierra. Do you really think that the Mondeo & Focus would have been as successful if they hadn't changed their names.

It's not only food that goes stale.

Mark.Coleman (with an Impreza for sale)

Whether or not the Scoob has had any de-valuation of image, WTF else are you seriously going to buy?

I've got 23k to spend on a company car:
BMW 318i sport (yeah right)
Ford Mondeo ST220 [Ford image]
Audi A4 1.8T Sport [no metallic paint]
Seat Leon Cupra R
etc..

OR Scoob WRX + PPP + other goodies - let's think bout it for a while

Brewstaa 17 August 2003 12:48 PM

I really don't understand this Scooby's are common thing??? Being a Scooby owner now for about 4 weeks I can honestly say I don't see that many!

I drive to London on a regular basis and can drive from Leicester to Teddington and not see a single other Scoob, maybe I should concentrate more LOL!!

Okay I see more Scoobies than Escort Cossie's which was my previous ride but then Subaru have been making the damn things in the thousand for the last decade, so what do people expect

My favourite pass-time at the moment is drifting my scoob around a roundabout near me, a full on power slide, now don't get me wrong I'm no Colin McRae but my STi8 is a truly outstanding car that is beautifully balanced and enables even a half-wit like myself to go around corners like Starsky & Hutch, hence it makes me smile, makes me want to drive nowhere in particular and then come back, and then go out again ;)

And that is why a bust my bank account to get it :)
