Just opened up my air box after having ITG in for about 7k miles to see what state things were in..........
The little brown bulb sensor (not sure if this is the MAF or if the MAF sensor is located in the black tube part) had a thin black oily film on it!! Was thinking of removing my ITG anyway, but now it has definitely been taken out. Cleaned sensor, air box etc, re-fitted standard paper jobby. I suggest anyone else using on in Bugeye checks ASAP. If its black, I would also suggest its recirculated oil vapour, being returned via the standard dump valve.
The bulb of resin is a an air temp sensor and may just clean up. They are brown when clean. |
Anyone post info on how to check - ie where is the MAF?

My MAF was manky also(with ITG). Cleaned up well with some brake cleaner.

And I suppose you are certain the oil on the sensor is coming from the filter, and not from the oil breathers?
I have a K&N induction kit, which has little or no oil on it, but the sensor, and pipe between MAF and turbo is quite oily. I suggest you check again with the standard filter too, you might be in for a surprise. Edited to add, the gel on the ITG is green, not brown. Paul [Edited by Pavlo - 8/10/2003 7:10:15 PM] |
Pavlo, not 100% sure but the ITG now looks more black than green and I wouldn't have thought breather oil fumes would get that far back. I thought they were put in further upstream.
Pete, it did clean up fine, there was no contamination anywhere else inside the housing. I thought it looked like a thermistor. Probably just being paranoid, but can't be too carefull. Jza, if you look at the air box, you will see a wired connector where the round exit on top of the air box is. This is the MAF sensor. To check, undo 2 air box clips, undo jubilee clip on air intake hose at air box exit, unplug MAF, unclip 2 hoses on top of air box. Now lift the air box off. Sounds a bit easier than it is, it is also a bit tricky to get back on. If you are at all unsure then I would suggest no touchy! Bogie [Edited by bogie - 8/12/2003 10:20:21 PM] |
