almost mint apart from :-

small patch of rust on front of rear wheel arch and drivers seat right hand side slightly collapsed.

questions to you pug experts (i will also try pug drivers forum as well):-

how do i get the seat repaired?
still on the original 14 wheels, why does everyone else seem to replace them for 15's?
intend to keep the car as original as possible (will have to replace the tape player though and tyres! though)
any other information much appreciated.

just need to sell the wrx now

You'll be lucky to find a replacement driver's seat as they all collapse. I suggest you seek out a passenger seat - the only problem you will have is the reclining knob will be on the wrong side.

Wheels - 15" will give much better grip but heavier steering.

There is a book all about Sporting 205s, available from Amazon. I wrote it.

Original tyres?

yes, original tyres. it was owned by an older lady (50's). you can tell they are original by the side walls, they are all cracking.
first job new tyres/or 1.9 wheels (nor sure which to do, any comments are welcome)
only done 43,00 miles so can't have been driven very hard.

Those tyres need to be got rid of quickly!
If the car is over 10 years old then the tyres will be in a possably dangerous condition (they have a 10 year life expectancy).
The car sounds great though! (and a bargain) and get that rust sorted quickly (graphite grey is the best colour these cars came in ;))

My drivers seat was knackered as well + some small rips on the back seat. Managed to get an entire replacement interior for £50 - all the seats in A1 condition. Very quick and easy to replace.

You aint alone pyrally. I went from new MY2000, to 1.9GTi, to new Bugeye and back to 1.9 again.

Everyone puts on the 1.9 alloys and axes the 1.6 badges from the rear pillers to pretend its a 1.9. Definately going to need new tires. I would question the mileage if the seats that bad although i do recognise they die quickly on the 205s... and think of all that around town mileage...

Nealry killed my XS this morning. Lost the top cover of the cambelt a month or so ago - weird as it was quite large - never noticed it fall off.

Bottom half was hanging off this am so I thought I better pull it off in case it went into the timing belt.

Pulled it off, but didnt notice the main alternator feed wires resting on the cambelt. Needless to say, the cambelt cut through the wire casing and started shorting everything.

Caught it in time though :D

I was racing a mate in his puma in my xs over the weekend-he was quicker on the straights but there wasn't much in it on the corners. Until my brakes died...

Great cars, you won't regret it. I had a 205 1.9 which i missed, hence buying the xs as a toy.

Mine still has the 1.6 alloys and the 1.6 badges - which makes it even sweeter when I'm running an Mi16 with a quickshift :)

The seat bolster always collapses: my first 1.9 (a 19000 miler) had already gone when I bought it.

tyres are 16 years old! will it be safe to drive back up from birmingham to warrington or should i get them changed down there?
what is the recommended choice of tyre for the pug?

i will post some pictures when i've picked it up later this week.

seat bolster! i wondered what it was called, the lady who i bought it off had a bad back so i think it was caused by how she got in or out of the car - do i just put up with it?

We will fully rebuild the rear suspension beam, fit new bearings, and lower the ride height and modify the gear change to incorporate a quick change."

Unfortunately they now have a failry crap reputation up at LAD. Skip Brown is better, and much nearer to Warrington from what I can remember.

Best tyres I had on my old GTi were Yokohama A520 - the absolute mutts nutts, wet or dry.

don't really want to modify the car in anyway, wound like to keep it as original as possible. so i will probably keep the original wheels.

would like to get it in the condition it was when it came out of the showroom.

don't go to LAD! They have a bad reputation.

You either want to keep it completely standard because there are so few standard cars left, but to be honest its a bit slow - so you either want to lighten it, or go the Mi16 route, or both.

Mine is stripped, caged etc (track/race car) and is delimited - and in relatively standard tune it's so light it goes suprisingly fast from low down. In fact I'd go so far as to say bloody fast.

cheers scotsman, already read your thread, was very tempted by the miami blue mi16 which was for sale on the for sale section.
But had deceided that if an original one came up i would buy it and go the standard route.
Not too bothered if its not fast, had the scooby and still got two motorbikes for the speed thing if needed.

i coundn't agree more, have you seen the price of tyres compared to a scooby. you could get 4 for the pug for one for the sccob.

Welcome to the club! I run an almost standard 1.9 Gti alongside my Supra - I flipping love it - so much fun :D

As said - avoid LAD on the Pugs, they have a very bad rep, Skip Brown are by far the best.

As for tyres - Eagle F1 GSD3 (payu no more than 45-50 each) or Toyo T1-S (no more than 40)
