What size slicks or road legal slick should i use for 215/40/17 normal road tyre size?

I use 210/620/R17s on mine - I have a big pile in my shed. I also have 2 210/625/R17s if I could only find two more to go with it.

Of course this increases rolling radius but works fine on the car.

Also consider near slicks, some of the "road legal" ones will be grippier than some pure slicks. I think Kumho do a semi slick and a fully slick tyre in 17" sizes, which shouldn't break the piggy bank.

Nadine was using Kuhmo Ecsta V700 tyres on her Viper. Apparently she got them from the states for about US $400.
Very cheap for 335/35x17 and 275/35x17 tryes I think....

They do have a road type pattern, but they were very soft compound, an she thinks they are very good.

How is the size for a race tyre listed ?
e.g. 210/620/17 210 is the width in mm and the 17 is the rim in Inch, but how is the 620 measured ?

I look for some tyre in 205/50-16 for track racing, but Yokohama 032 is only available in 205/45-16 or 205/55-16, now I think about Kumho in size 210/620-16 But I'm not sure they will fit.

The Kumho V700 is one road legal slick, but they also do an even slicker slick aimed at being legal for rallying.

I have Kunmho V70 on my hill climb STI V3 on 17'' P1 wheels. They are 17 x 205 x 35 and measure 590mm in diameter. My Toyo's were 610mm dia. In 17'' you can get hard (trackday)and Medium only. Mine are medium and have the same temperature in them after a 60 second hillclimb blast as full on Avon hillclimb slicks.
They are MoT legal, cost me 104 each inc fitting, balance and VAT.
They realy are so good, and are wearing realy well.
If you use 16's they do a super soft road legal tyre (near slick)also.
The Rally legal patterned slicks are not MoT legal, but bloody soft.

Without sounding stupid, Kumho! Go to their web site and take it from there, BUT, the 'motorsport tyre' is a bit convoluted.
The tyres are imported by a guy in Liverpool. The tyres you choose are then sent to your friendly local Kumho Dealership found on the website. You actually pay the Liverpool man (easy Credit card by phone), and they will give you his number!
Cannot recal his name now but realy helpful and friendly so do not worry.
I got mine from Bridgnorth as it is only 10 miles away and happens to be their Motorsport Tyre warehouse.

The web site I think is www.kumho-tire.co.uk, you may need to play around with the address until you find it. All the details are there. You may find the 'soft' compound a bit too soft, and wear will be alarming!(bloody sticky though....)

I do less than 5k a year and I'm interested in hill climbing/sprinting my WRX and have been looking for something to fit both roles. What do you think ?
What happpens when it rains, both when racing and if you use them on the road ?

Mark, I do 3000 miles /year driving to and from the hillclimbs, sun and rain.
The Kumhos are E marked so are MoT legal, and are Great on the track and so grippy on the road, and silent, no lurid screeches or yelps and all the boy racer stuff. On real hard starts you get wheelspin so the transmission is relived of the shock.
When new you get 5mm tread and they look as though they will not wear well, but they are realy good, especially the fronts, and I expect to do the year on them and even beyond.
You will not get high grip and low wear!

Try them and you will not be dissapointed especially if you are going to race BUT look at the regulations of the events you are going to run. The Toyo's/F1's etc are known as List 1A tyres. The Kumho's are List 1B. This is MOST important. Wrong tyres and you will be moved to the racing class (full slicks).

No, not doing Harewood. Doing Loton Park in 2 weeks time (a local clubbie) and Precott hill a week later , a Championship event so dead serious! I need the points.....

I'm from Leeds orginally and just on extended vacantion (17 years). As a teenager I use to watch Hillclimbing at Harewood, my parents have a flat in Leeds so I thought about spending the weekend up in Leeds and competing.

My friend sprints and hillclimbs a Renault 8 and its all his fault that I've got interested in this again.
I will start sprinting in September but need sometime to fit a long list of parts bought recently,headers,intercooler and ECU.

What cars are you competing against ? at the last 7oaks meeting the group I intend to race in included Skylines and Evo 7-8s and the odd P1/late impreza.
Your right about the long protracted proceedure to get hold of Kumho tyres, day 2 and still trying to get a price.

Yes, sounds about right. 4 months ago I paid £104 each all in. The guy was based in Liverpool and were the main importers of Kumho's in general. Think you are ok.
They ARE worth the hassle/effort!

Just one point. The people at Bridgnorth depot did a poor job of balancing, and the fronts needed re doing to a finer limit, and then all was well.

Paul, strange you are having probs getting the web site or the number.

Call Kumho Motorsport 01746 764434. The very nice lady there will give you the man-in-Blackpool's tel Number for these demon road legal tyres. He is in Blackpool not Liverpool as I said incorrectly before (senior moment).
The rest will be easy. I did all this, got the tyres fitted and on the road in 4 hours flat!He will fix the size you need etc.

The web site is www.kumhomotorsport.com and is a copy of their brochures. I happen to have them right here, so if you want, tell me the wheel'tyres you have now and I can give you the sizes from the brochures. I DO NOT work for Kumho!!!!

Possibly a bit late on this thread but be careful! 210/620/17 slicks on ET48 7.5 wheels just ever so slightly rub the rear wheel arches.
