My car is for sale atmo in autotrader, this guy rings me up and says he is from motor match who match buyers to sellers for cars. He says his service is free and they organise the finance for the seller and earn their money that way - sounds good.

Says he has 5 buyers for a P1 of my price - again good.

Now asks me for a refundable 80 quid registration which i get back when they sell the car for me.

Is this coshure or is this some con?Anyone used or heard of them?

stevem2k 08 August 2003 05:56 PM

sounds like the ' 5 buyers in your area ' from that other mob.

Read the small print VERY carefully if I were you.

Their web site has massive disclaimers etc but over 250 cars for sale.

But says free to buyers, 80 quid for sellers and only money back if the guy buying uses THEIR finance scheme, probably not that likely.

The car is in autotrader and top marques + those web sites.

As Steve says, it sounds far too much like (IIRC) Cardata.

I'd avoid

And the domain is registered to what looks to be a private address. Not very business like IMHO:

Ta Chris puts my mind at rest, only had one call on the car so far and it almost seemed to good to be true, was beginning to panic a little

This is just to clarify all the above ok.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO:eek:

Take it from me that they are purely & simply,
dirty conning, robbing, f***ing w**nkers, and scum.

The 5 buyers do not exist. FACT!
Once you have parted with your 80 notes, you will not hear anything from them again, EVER!

I got caught out with these tw@ts about 6 months ago, before i used to know about SN and so none the wiser.
The best thing you can do when they call you back is tell them to piss off!
They also make out like their your best mate!

Dazza012 08 August 2003 06:41 PM

echo the above, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY CASH OR PART WITH UR CARD DETAILS.
They call you saying yes we have XX buyers in ur area who want to buy ur car, what a crock of sh*te. keep the £80 and go get pi$$ed over the weekend.
When avertising in the auto trader or free ad's papers ALWAYS ask them to put "NC" at the end of ur ad.

GRIFFS STI 08 August 2003 06:52 PM

yeh agree dont bother, but if you want to spend £80 i'll have it!!!
same scam as car data,i got stung by them selling my st24 estate, amazing they had 50 or so buyers before i paid, but none after they took me £60,steer well clear, stick with autotrader.
cheers
jason

Agree with the above-it is most likely to be a con like Car Data. They are unlikely to have anyone on their books looking for your car at all. Hang on to the £80.
