I appreciate the 150 plus on the German section of the motorway, I assume that's allowed, if a somewhat irresponsible, in my opinion.

The 230km/h or whatever on the equivalent of a British A road with a 70 limit I think I'd rather not be associated with by virtue of driving the same sort of car.

No wonder we get the epithet "Turbo nutter ba5tards".

I've posted this on the 22b BBS as well.

A couple of years back a Japanese chap filmed himself driving an F40 at 200 mph , he made a video which was available in the public domain and the police prosecuted him using the video has evidence.

That's right tfyus,
First the speedo is at 250 km/h (150 mph)
and anyway as we can't see the rpm it's not possible to know exactly the value. I believe the rpm is just over 6000rpm so it means the standard top speed of 230km/h (140 mph)

Seriously, it was the first time i was trying to push up the speed of the scooby, i thaught it would not go over 230km/h....

Anyway, the meeting was in a driving school and for £250 a day , you can learn driving on a nissan micra, escort cosworth, scooby Sti Type R and EVO 6 on a very nice rallycross track

From the information i've got, the school do more practice than speaking, so i'm sure i'm gonna enjoy one of these fabulous days soon to get better with my scooby handling as i only have it for 2 months now....

Ditto the COMPLETELY EMPTY "A" road. Less of a hazard than some muppet doing 45 in a 30.

I will not condone irresponsible behavior (and if anything, the pictures taken inches away from the car in front should be the ones to raise concern) but why do some of you drive a Scooby in the first place?

Its all about how well they go generally, which is likely to be well in excess of the relevant speed limits. And remember that only a small % ever do trackdays.

I've had cause to drive a new Astra estate (75bhp model) down some of my favourite roads and have to say that keeping within the 60 mph limit it covers ground just as fast as my Scoob (and in a lot more comfort most of the time).

I'd bet money everyone on this board has exceeded the speed limit in a residential area, which in my eyes is far worse. So lets not get all "holier than though" in our attitude.

Look : how many people have read this topic and how many disagree ? few I think.
Speed on open roads in france (and other countries like spain for example) is a reality and is part of all french drivers (from citroen 2CV to impreza), and I don't speak about strangers who go fast because there is less risks for the licence... .
Maybe in England it's more dangerous to do that because of your roads or it's not in your spirit but i don't think so, maybe it's something else but I don't know, i never visited your great country http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

So ok, scooby not needed to be dangerous, a politician like Gayssot in france (transport's minister) kills people in his office due to his incompetence (as his predecessors) so don't judge too fast...

Personally i think hes got the car on a special ramp where the wheels dangle and hes just seeing what 7000 rpm in top is.

The pictures dont bother me one bit. Having seen speeds far in excess of those in that picture.

Take out ten mph for speedo error and its not that fast really

If its a totally clear road then whats the problem? When I went through germany people expect speed, and check for it.
Its the muppets over here who say Im doing 7omph so I will stay in the outside lane of the motorway whilst searching for a cassette and lighing a fag that are the dangerous drivers in my mind.

Or the ones who want to race on public roads whilst its busy. Or drive 3 inches off someones bumper to prove their car is faster etc.

150 on an Autobahn? No problem. It's legal, and probably safe in a Scooby. I did close to that myself in Germany 2 years ago.

But 138 mph in a 43 mph zone? That's taking the p*** a bit isn't it? Surely there was a reason that the stretch of French road in question had a lower limit? Maybe a school, houses ...?

For the 48mph limit-road, it was sunday, 8:00AM , a long road, like 5 or 6 miles straight, the road was in middle of nowhere.

Nobody on this road, except my scooby and me.

So, what would you do if u will be on this kind of road ????


The limit was annoucing the end of the "big" road and the entry of a town 1 mile after....

What did it feel like at 157? Stable, or pretty scary? I've heard that the rear side windows can pop out of the doorframes due to the air pressure!

At this speed, it really feels safe, the car goes straight, no "bad" reaction....

i had a clio williams before and at lower speed on highway, i got a very less safer feeling....

Get yourselves down to Snetterton track day on the 10th of May, It's got one hell of a fast straight on the circuit!

150+ feels hairy as sh*t! in terms of the scenery wizzing by, but scoobs handles it like it's on rails!

PS. if anyone is interested in the Snetterton Track Day it's £50, I think there are still places left, I can pass the gen on to you!

This topic reminds me of that Police, Camera, Action video, with the Jap bloke testing out his new F40, videoing his speedo at 200mph+, then he got nicked further down the road, the video evidence sealed his fate!

Personally, I prefer looking at the road rather than my speedo ...
But surely, it depends on the confidence you have in the car also.
I'll do any speed available in my scoob. Within the boundaries of the law, of course.
But, in my wifes Bravo or my Spider ... naaah! But speed is not really their purpose.

I`ll stick to Bruntingthorpe`s 2 mile straight for top ending it as I `d like to keep out of prison and out of the morgue.

However......

My best mate did 160 on the M1 racing a maranello in his chimera 500 a couple of months ago, nothing in it until about 150 then the maranello went away, upto about 180 odd I suppose!!

Sort of thing that gets in the Sun!
