Me and the wife, on returning from her second scan today, noticed a scraping/grinding sound coming from front left wheel/brakes.
Time was 4:55 pm, I rang my local Subaru garage and they said pop it in straight away.......fantastic....!

Took the car round the block, into the garage, front wheels off and found that the brake pad in question was completely worn down to the wear indicator ( hence the noise ) and it appears that the front caliper was sticking. Time now 5:10pm. Yes, they showed me the pads as they did it in front of me.

5:35 picked the car up with new pads fitted, both calipers cleaned and greased aswell as all pistons......all this in 40 minutes from an off-chance telephone call.

Fantastic service from Holdcrofts in Newcastle under Lyme, well done lads.

Guess how much it cost in all?

Wife paid.

Standard Subaru pads and discs on car until I can afford some decent ones.

MY96 - uk wagon.

Go on then....how much do you think they charged me?

Skoosh.

Yep. Pads around £90, fitting around £90. This was quoted at a main dealer in Cambridge. They didn't know a thing about any other pads though. Reckoned Prodrive made their own.

That was for MY00 four pots.

Steve, I only had pads replaced mate, not discs aswell, unless that's the going rate at Subaru dealers (?).

Way off, I paid, sorry, the wife paid £182 all in with vat.

Does this sound reasonable?.

Skoosh.

Dealers quote £140 for the pads, classic 4-pot, plus about £80 for the fitting, whats' that, £220 all in. Sourced some locally for £50, genuine parts, fitted them myself, 1 - 2 hrs bashing and cursing, but worth it I reckon. That £170 buys alot of Optimax. Go on you know you can do it.

Had my changed at Roger Clark Motorsport using genuine parts

£ 120.00 all in

Westaways in Northampton quoted £ 150.00 ish

Just got back from having my front pads done.
£100 for pads, £22.50 for labour + VAT = £144.
Took about 45 mins from driving in to leaving.
That was at Ashburton motorworks (Suabru Dealer) in Devon.

I also went to roger clark motor sport for a price, but then decided to buy the ferodo ds250 pads, and fit them myself.

Roger clark were the most competitive on the standard pads though.
