Yes, I know that historically P1s have clutch trouble. My car is on its third and has just had the go ahead for another (no, I haven't had the car long enough to cause all that trouble :) ) However, I was told a few weeks ago that modifications have been made (to the flywheel?) and that the problem should be sorted but the parts were on back order. Now I've been told that there are problems with these latest modifications that have been made and they're not happy with them. (a) Does anyone know anything about these latest problems/changes? (b) Does anyone have the answer to a glitch free clutch problem on the P1 and therefore got any tips that I can pass on to the dealer? (And before anyone says ... I can't post on the P1 owners club site as I haven't been able to register). |
Tell them to fit a decent aftermarket clutch instead? Not very helpful I know but it *is* an option (though the dealer probably won't see it that way ;))
Matt :) |
Yes, I know that historically P1s have clutch trouble I can't see the Dealer being keen to fit an aftermarket clutch unless IM agree this. The Dealer has to foot the bill first and claim this back from IM. It's certainly an option, but will IM then warranty the 3rd party clutch?? Stefan |
I did ask the dealer about fitting a different clutch ... but that of course then invalidates the warranty ... so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. :(
Stefan - yes, clutch judder. |
Rebecca,
Have you seen this? I'm not sure if the P1 shares the same clutch plate and flywheel as the UK cars or the STI. With all th replacements surely IM have sussed out the fault and your replacement parts will fix it once and for all. If I were you I'd be asking for something in writing from IM that if it fails again with the same fault, they will replace it. You don't want to go through it all again in 6mths time if your near the end of your warranty or more than 30K miles. Stefan |
Contact "Customer relations" at Subaru UK, make him aware of situation, dont be fobbed off, stand your ground, be surprised what may be offered, may even get free service voucher as "offering".
Flywheels have been a problem, so no fibs there, but they have to replace the "full kit" or the mods will not last. |
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a ring. Am just concerned because Subaru obviously thought they'd solved the problem recently, but are now saying that it's not fixed. The last thing I want is to think that the clutch is going to have to be changed on a yearly basis or less :( They will be changing the fly wheel as well this time but I think it's the latest mods to the fly wheel that's now causing the problems. Oh dear! |
Rebecca,
Did you get anywhere with IM or Subaru regarding the fix and why they are now not happy with it ? Have they replaced the flywheel on all the occasions ? Ian.. |
Ian, not rung them yet. I gather that the first time the clutch was changed was because they replaced the gearbox. On that occasion they didn't change the flywheel. The second time the clutch was changed the flywheel was too. I've not been asked to sign anything though re: changing the clutch. |
