Hi..

ive got an sti.. its my first performance car ever.. never even driven a GTI or the likes before..
The Sti's a Beauty.. love the performance and it looks great..
Its a 98 modell version 5 (an import) it already has a 5inch exaust... uprated brakes... i need a new clutch but not sure which or what kind to go for.. Subaru dealers advice is to buy an aftermarket clutch as the uk standard subaru clutch is no good for imported sti's..

The performance is great but after geting used to covering a long strip of tarmak in zilch seconds i want M ORe hehe..

Its already got an induction kit fitted.. i'm thinking of upgrading the Turbo..

Does anyone have any ideas on wether i can get a better turbo and where from?
and what sorta clutch i should buy?

I run an Organic AP clutch in mine.....works a treat and mine pushes out 350+bhp...no slip at all..enough grip that it shattered first gear a few weekes back.

Cusco make a great clutch bit its a little pricey as is the HKS one.

As for the turbo, depends what you want, big turbo = big lag.

go for a Apexi,HKS or if the money is right a Greddy one (25G )
or you could have a turbo built to your spec

The std 99- Subaru clutch is up to anything your Sti can currently throw at it. I run the std clutch on 440 bhp and 380+lbft torque.

I have just done 10 drag race starts with it and it's fine.

Save yourself some money and just fit a new plate, £77 from your dealer

As for the clutch...
I would have thought the same as you say Andy.F. But recently my mate had a new clutch fitted (standard from dealers) i've driven it and the clutch goes spungy after giving it some stick.
e.g put my foot down in 1st.. 2nd.. and goin into third it dont connect crisp.. gets stuck half way up and then feels spungy changing into the rest of the gears taking time to settle again.

If i go for the standard and it does the spongy effect it'll have been a waste of money..

have you guys ever come across this problem?

Yes, they have probably forgot to fit the return spring on the actuator arm, as you accelerate hard the arm moves back, reducing the travel for the next press of the clutch.

My MY99 UK clutch was fine to 30000 miles and eventually 406 BHP.

However, T-uk's clutch slipped in 3rd gear or higher at about 350 BHP. Lower mileage, but a few more track days, but not many standing starts.

Luck of the draw?

Also driving style - I'm particularly hard on the clutch through the gears....but a new plate is cheaper than a gearbox :D

i have a ap fitted fantastic cant beat the name or quality but the ome clutch is usually up to the job

I'm gona go for the standard sti clutch and see how it goes.. i'll keep ya guys posted... if it slips i'll just have to go buy a better one..

Still deciding on upgarding the turbo.. my sti is already around 300bhp.. what kinda bhp would i expect from a TD05? does anyone know?
