Hi,

Does anyone have a util that will recover/set the admin password in Win2000pro? It seems that one of our PCs in Egypt does not like the password (supposedly) set during setup. We've tryed all the other standard ones we use but no luck.

I need to get this done in the next hour or so, so if anyone has anything that can help it's much appreciated. If possible it needs to be something simple as it's their non-IT bod there who will be doing it.

Mail me if you prefer.

Cheers

NTLinux Boot Disk should do the job, but I would be reluctant to get someone without a reasonable knowledge to do it.

Hi Ian,

Yea, I've got this now and reading the instructions it's not something I would want to get a non-IT person doing. Especially as English is not there first laguage...

IanW 05 August 2003 02:15 PM

It will deffinatly do the job, and I have not found anything better!

Is the machine on a domain at all? can you not login as a Domain Admin and then reset teh password on teh local machine through User Manager?

Nimbus 05 August 2003 02:17 PM

No, it's not on a Domain. It's not even on a LAN at the moment.

IanW 05 August 2003 02:19 PM

Can you join it to a LAN?

When you join the machine to the LAN it should ask for permission of an account to join teh domain, which will then give a Domain Admin account Admin rights on the PC.

No. It's in a warehouse which is about 2 miles from the actual office. :(

IanW 05 August 2003 02:24 PM

Doh! :(

I think that NTLinux might be the only option in that case tehn unless someone else knows of anything different.

Hi King,

That's the same util that Neil and I have. I'm going through this on a test machine at the mo and writing some (hopfully) user-proof instructions for it.

Thanks anyway. :)

king_tut 05 August 2003 04:27 PM

it works 100% guranteed on NT and 2000 ive used it before many a time.

Nimbus 05 August 2003 05:35 PM

Well, program and instructions mailed to them. Let see if they can't bugger it up somehow... ;)

Nimbus 06 August 2003 01:47 PM

Phew, that was hard work. But they did it in the end (second attempt)..

Cheers everyone...
