ok i think for the money 9700pro will me my next card of choice, can be found for sub £200 mark, and not that much slower than 9800pro+ doom3 and hlf 2 have been put back.

9800pro is just an overclocked 9700pro

Its more than that mate. It might not be a huge leap in performance but the improved shader unit and other optimisations will make a difference when playing DX9 games.

What are we talking 6-10fps ?? for the money is the extra fps worth it,

The 9700pro would be my choice, offering better value for money. But then again, a couple of years ago I would've bought the outright fastest card on the market, which is the 9800pro. Its all down to your requirements, budget and cynical disposition I suppose :)

As Toms Hardware puts it: "Owners of a Radeon 9700 PRO need not worry, though. Their card has not suddenly become obsolete because of the Radeon 9800 PRO. While there is a difference between the two, it isn't a dramatic one, and certainly nowhere near enough to justify an upgrade, in our opinion."

bit of news for you...

German site Gamestar.de (thanks HomeLAN Fed) has word (in German, naturally, here's the rough Babel Fish translation) has word from their sister print publication that the release of ATI's RADEON 9900 Pro video card will be bundled with Half-Life 2. They also have word that the game is expected to go gold on September 13, though they do not offer the basis for this claim, though they do point out that both the gold date and the ATI news add further confusion to recent stories about the game's release date

I rest my case
