How bad is the depreciation on scoobs???

revitt 01 August 2003 06:56 AM

How long is a piece of string? ;)

It depends on what you are comparing it with and whether or not you are selling privately or trading in. Then if you are trading in it depends on which vehicle you trade it in against.

As I have only traded my scoobys against other new scoobys I have done alright so far when compared to other marques.

I saved up for this car and for the 1st time paid cash, the money I saved in interest more than makes up for any depreciation loss. Personnally I think there is more to be gained from taking out no loan or a loan with good interest rates than worrying about depreciation.

Hope this helps

fair enough mike,

Just asking as i currently have a Honda CTR, and they hold their value really, really well.

Thanks for the response.

How bad is the depreciation on scoobs???
Try asking that to a MY02 owner :D
They were £21k (ish) when new and now worth about £13k 12 months later, I'd say that is pretty bad depreciation.
Also just to add salt in the wound, Subaru lowered the price when the new model was released just to piss MY02 owners off even more.

It's a supply and demand thing.

If there's few CTR's and loads of people want them, then the 2nd-hand price will be high.

I looked at changing my RB5 for a CTR and was offered no discount (although the said they could get me one of the special editions) and £10K for my car.

I told them to go fook themselves. CTR's, like Scoobs are great cars, but not that special.

Depreciation on any car is scary right now whether it's a CTR or not. I think the CTR is holding it's value right now, but it won't last forever. I had no problems ordering a new one, so there's no way I'd pay high prices for a 2nd-hand one and the same goes for a Scoob.

so what would you guys say is a fair price for a bog standard, delaler supplied year old WRX with, say, 10k on it??

Danny B 01 August 2003 01:01 PM

From a dealer about £15,500
From a private sale about £14,000, I'd hang on until people start selling their MY03's in a few months time.

Chris_O 01 August 2003 01:26 PM

where i've been looking the dealers seem to have these cars all prived at around 18,000. Although i assume that there'll be some amount of movement on that. IN terms of the MY03's i had looked at getting an ex demonstrator, but the prices on these are not much less than new, e.g.

fvrom those who have bought from dealers, how open to negotiation are they??
When i cought my CTR, honda wouldn;t budge on teh price at all, but they did give me a decent trade for my MX-5 and chuck in some free mats. They also forgot to charge me for the metallic paint, which was nice.

HELLOM8 01 August 2003 01:37 PM

The last of the buyeyes were reduced by £3K to try and get shot of them before the new model came out and the new WRX is £20K now, which hasn't helped.
A 2002 bugeye WRX goes for 16-18K if you look at the Subaru site.
Not sure they go for private but gives you an idea of how much you can negotiate with a dealer.
Cheers.
Ian.

I bought a my02 wrx in november last year in total ive spent approx £25000 buying it ppp'ing it prodrive quick shift, 18 inch wheels, eibachs, morrettes, big rear wing the list is endless its just done 6000 miles so when i saw a second hand sti8 i popped into my dealer to see what he'd give me for mine against the sti8 i was gutted when they offered me £15000 as it was with every thing left on i cant think what he would have offered me for it in standard trim

Looks like i will be keeping it for a while

scoobypig 01 August 2003 05:05 PM

just sold my my02 ppp,tracker,6disk,new tyres,mint wrblue 4dr.
Dealer sold it on my behalf, gave me 14.5k, advertised at 16.5, sold in 3 days!
I'm happy, only sold for upcoming company car, overall terrible depreciation but enjoyed driving at irresponsible speeds for that time!
Don't regret having 2 scoobs but the costs were getting silly...

CTR's are not holding value that well theres a lot of cheap ones about, prob because not long until facelift model comes out.

Life's too short. Forget it and enjoy the car!
