After a good Panel filter for MY02 WRX
Any ideas welcome :) Pete |
The JR one that JW sells seems pretty good. Quite dry unlike a lot of the oily rags you get.

You got a link or web address to that mate ;) |
Alright mate! Ive just put a Green filter in mine, got it from TSL for bout £45. Cant say ive noticed a big difference but my standard paper one was nearly new anyway. Thought about doing it for ages and for that kind of money I thought it can only improve things even if its just more responsive/smoother rather than the claimed 5bhp increase in raw power.
|
Green Cotton Filters or ITG's are the leaders in the market expect to pay £44 & £40 (respectively) all in
|
Can't fault a K&N filter, never tried the Green air filter on the Scoob but had a panel filter then induction kit on my old Renault and have to say they are not bad;)
|
|
Just fitted the green filter from TSL. Its air flow capabilities proved higher than pretty much all other filters (and that includes certain v. expensive induction kits) when measured via Motec.
Can feel a great difference in terms of power, but throttle response is definitely quicker now. |
Thanks chaps
Think i've narrowed it down to three ITG TSL's Green one JR Racing As ExtremeScooby says i think they are all £40 - £45 ea. :D [Edited by Buzzer - 7/29/2003 9:42:21 PM] |
Many companies do the TSL "Green One", though massive differnce in prices; it pays to shop!
|
Though TSL's green one was a cone filter, or am I mistaken?
|
No, Green do make cone filters but they do replacement panel filters for the OE airbox also.
|
Right Guys
At the moment i am tended to sway toward the ITG Panel filter sold by Scoobyworld for £43.99 delivered Anyone bettered that or have any more views ;) Pete |
Hi Pete,
I nearly bought the ITG filter too. As you know I have an MY99 which has the notoriously sensitive MAF sensor and was weary of the ITG as it is a 'foam' style element which requires plenty of oil to filtrate properly. After reading various threads on here I decided not to risk this damaging the MAF and went for the Green filter as it is cotton and although is very lightly oiled does'nt seem to 'gunge' up your airbox like the ITG has been known to do. Not sure how sensitive the MAF's are on the new age scoobs so you might be ok with the ITG and it is a bit cheaper I think. Mike. |
Feckin hell mike
Thought i had it sorted, now you've said that i don't know what to do  Just for the avoidance of anyones doubt, i have a MY02 :D |
Simple choice (not in any order!!!!)
ITG Green Cotton Filter Standard Subaru Filter Do nothing at all.............. |
Sorry mate! Its just you seem to be going through all the choices ive gone through on about a two week time delay! I think its just one of those some people have one and say its brilliant no probs and another will point out probs etc.
In the end ive had a Green induction kit (cotton) on my old Saxo VTR and a Pipercross one (foam) and the Green was better. I know the two cars are leagues apart but this topic seems as tough there is no definitive answer so it came down to that type of factor! |
Feck it !
ITG it is then, coz my Maff sensors better than yours Mike :D |
Cool! You shouldnt have any probs delivery wise if you order it from Scoobyworld. I know Wendy and Neil personally and they are top people. If you wanted to ask them anything about their products im sure they will only be too happy to help.
|
I know several people who have run the green filter on MY02's for 20k + miles, with no buildup in their airbox of gunk.
The green filter also is proven to flow the most g/s of air of all of the filters. It's what I have in my 2002 WRX, and it's what I recommend you get. :) |
There you go Buzzer! Another one for the Green!
|
|
LOL - all I know is that I wanted the best possible airflow (naturally) without risking any MAF problems, and I didn't want the roar of an induction kit, plus the potential running issues some of them make if they are not mapped to your car.
Et voila! Le grande filtre verte! As Del would say ;) |
Prodrive reckon replacing the standard subaru filter is no advantage as it flows as much air as these others.
|
Prodrive would, Blue
Cheers mate :) i have heard that said before now but dont think it holds much water (or oil) sorry couldn't resist |
Only repeating what they told me - I wonder If they'd show us the proof?? They must have sone graphs of flow rates etc.....
LOL - I'll be visiting my dealer in the morning about the oil. |
Blue - I've seen the motec charts, green filters flow even more than some of the so called induction kits.
|
|
None of those are the green filter :D
Perhaps it goes right off the page so we cant see it ;) Up to you mate, got nothing to gain which ever filter you choose, just passing on what I found out when I researched it :) |
Neil at Scoobyworld has wooed me with his charm ;)
...........and i have bought the ITG filter Fankoo ! |
