BOUT 20K LIMIT

How much do you have to spend? What do you want?
£27k WRX STI8 PPP - Total Lunatic Chariot
£25k WRX STI8 - Semi Lunatic Chariot
£22k WRX PPP - Mad as a bag of badgers
£20k WRX - Sane, well, as a bag of badgers.

You pays your money, you takes your chances. As a guide, if you're over 30 you'll prob pay around £600 to insure a WRX and, if you're with L&V the same for the WRXPPP. An STI will be at least double.

If you class the WRX (0-60 5.6) as the standard daily use car, the WRX PPP has modified back box, ecu and intercooler pipe shaving about 1s off 0-60 (4.6). The STI has 6sp 'box, revised susp, and many other "enhancements" (5.1) and is the proper total driving experience, with the PPP it's just barmy.

Depending on what vehicle you're coming from, it might be prudent to start with a WRX and use the spare cash on driver training (the best mod you can buy), and add the PPP upgrade later. Your question was rather open and I've answered as comprehensively as I can, but the choice is really yours, go test drive.

Ok, didn't see your £20k limit 'til after.

A UK dealer will prob go as low as £18.5k, but £19k more realistic for a WRX, leaving a grand for upgrading security (vital). You'll need a tracking device (£400ish), a Disklok (£80), anti hi-jack (£150). And then protect yourself from the biggest thieving scum out there, a camera detector (£400). Ooh, and don't forget insurance and petrol. If you use it well a good £30/week, at least.

Or look at nearly new. 2 superb buys in "ForSale" on here. Look for Bashers STi (£19k), and ADP's silver WRX (£13.2k) here .

0-60 time is mostly down to the driver.
Subaru can only get to it in 5.9 seconds whereas Prodrive can do it in 5.5 seconds ??

The official figure is 4.8s according to the PPP literature. How did you time it? Stopwatch with passenger or official timing?

Hmm slight thread hijackage going on. Corradoboy has covered everything anyway. :)
