need a new car for my wife. Looking at the estate version, anyone got one?

ScoobyJawa 28 July 2003 10:54 AM

Nope - but got a lot of good press - supposed to be pretty darn good motors :D

New accord estate also go a good write up, apart from an e-class thay have a load of room!!

Devil's Refugee 29 July 2003 08:25 AM

Supposed to be very good.
Interiors are top notch and the drive is "based" on a BMW 3 series according to Mazda. Clever Karikuri (sp) rear seating and excellent spec for the money.
AWD as standard. Engines lack a little torque according to reports on the estates.
One I'd definitely consider.

Bloke at the company I used to work at has recently got a diesel saloon one and he loves it. As does virtually everyone that goes in it. I think they've done a cracking job on it for the money it is a really good wagon.

what would scooby do 29 July 2003 11:28 AM

yes, my mate has just got the 2 litre petrol saloon/hatch thingy - very well specc'd..

As well as decent lightbulbs, Mazda seem to be making decent cars again

Very nice car, I've driven a few.

However, avoid the Estate with the 2.3 petrol combined with the AWD and the "sports" automatic gearbox. It is very very slow. The dealer actually suggested that I wouldn't want a drive in it as I would fall asleep. He wasn't wrong.

Go for the high powered diesel if you can. Nice and torquey.

Cheers

thanks for replies, which diesel is it you say is the best one to get?

AJbaseBloke 01 August 2003 10:28 AM

Very good drive, and have to agree that the diesel is nice, esp when hauling the wagon body about. Handling is very good for FF, esp. with the bigger tyre packages.

Its competitor is the Legacy, and the new Leggy is rather good, too! But then again, I would say that :D UK will be getting a 3.0 flat six w/decent poerformance in a couple of months...

IWatkins 01 August 2003 10:48 AM

They call it the "high powered diesel" but is also known as the 136 PS diesel engine. If you can afford it, go with the TS2 specification/trim level as you then get lots and lots of toys.

Cheers

Ian

Back in 2002 they showed the Mazda 6 MPS at the Paris Show.
2.3 litre turbo, 280 bhp and AWD, looked like a real alternative to a Scooby.

Unfortunately, nothing seems to have come of it... anyone heard anything ?
