"...Auto Express magazine has an exclusive first sketch of the new car, based on information from sources inside Subaru. The as-yet-unnamed SUV will be developed on a revised version of the current Legacy platform, and feature a rugged-looking body with three rows of seats.

Expected to debut at January's Detroit Motor Show, the car will go on sale in 2005. Crucially, the SUV will be the first model to include significant design input from new chief stylist Andreas Zapatinas, and as such will be a test of the company's future design direction. ..." endquote

does anyone have this magazine? if so, could you please scan and post the pic here?

this refers to the upcoming 7 passenger vehicle, mainly meant to boost their US market.

here is another article about the SUV (aka SUW), its expected competition is the honda mdx and lexus rx330.

"Subaru Set For 4WD
Subaru are set to put a full-size 4wd on and off the road.

Editorial:

Subaru will expand its model line-up to include a full-size crossover four-wheel-drive wagon to compete with the latest batch of car-based off-roaders.

Dubbed internally as an SUW - for sports utility wagon - the off-roader will feature three rows of seats and an enlarged version of Subaru's six-cylinder, horizontally opposed H6 engine to boost power and performance.

Speaking at last week's unveiling of the all-new Liberty, which arrives here in September, Subaru's general manager of total vehicle performance integration, Takeshi Tachimori, said the large off-road wagon would be on sale in 2005.

"We are going to introduce a new vehicle in the US market to increase our sales and improve production at our (US production) plant," said Tachimori, who would not go into detail about the car. "We will put the six-cylinder H6 (engine) in."

Tachimori described the new wagon as similar in concept to the recently released Honda MDX and Lexus RX330. He admitted the company first looked at sharing development of a model with General Motors, with which it has an alliance, but said the quest for Subaru to maintain its identity led to a unique program.

The vehicle will be built on a Subaru-designed platform and is expected to get a 3.7-litre version of its H6 engine, boosting power well beyond 200kW.

The large Subaru 4WD would be built initially in left-hand-drive form predominantly for the US market, although right-hand-drive production is possible, opening the door for Australia - one of Subaru's best export markets - to expand its line-up.

Four-wheel-drive sales have reached record levels in Australia, accounting for about one in five new cars sold, and show no signs of slowing. Toby Hagon, The Age, June 2003." endquote
