What happens to your NCB if u dont use it?

Do you get a time period before it expires?

I assume NCB is no-claims bonus? (so this thread will probably be moved to Insurance)

Yes, it will expire eventually. However, I think that most insurers will accept proof of having had an NCB in the past for around 5 years after you last insured a car. GF had no problems about transferring NCB from her previous car to her latest one with a three year gap in between.

If you are in this situation (or are about to get into this situation) keep your renewal notice as this will prove what NCB you are entitled to.

If you are about to head abroad and will have a car there, it is worth taking the renewal notice with you as a friend discovered that transferring NCB to the USA was OK. Unfortunately, he discovered this when he needed to insure the car and didn't have proof of UK driving experience. D'OH!
