i was just wondering how many of you guys and gals feel a bit guilty after ripping the sccoby. i always try to console myself with the 'thats what the car was built for' or the 'its good to clear out the system every now and then', but i just cant help feeling bad after making her scream, (ooh i say)

am i the only 1??

must admit i do love it of course:)

Know what you mean. Makes me think I'll brake something.

ALi-B 25 July 2003 12:39 PM

I do have that feeling when she's screaming at 7000rpm :D

I must remind myself not go thrashing about with the G/F in passenger seat ;) :p

As for the car, well, that big end thing has worried me on a number of occasions. But if it goes, well it goes and it'll be engine number 3 for me! ;)

personally i do not worry - its a car and i bought it for the purpose of enjoying it. if igets stick fair enough.

just look after her for the first ten miles or so to get oil toasty and then let her have it. :D

10 miles :o Jeez, if i had to wait 10 miles before letting rip id never have the chance!

How long do you leave yours?

mista weava 25 July 2003 03:02 PM

i run mine up from cold, without using any turbo until a mile or so after the water temp is normal.

then not above 2.5 - 3 k for thenext say 3miles - so thats about 6 miles.

maybe the odd blat to 4k where nessacary (slip by traffic etc),

after about admittedly 8 will then utilise more boost, but i do wait until about 10 before savageing the thing! ie: lots of boost and fast upchanges.

if you use good oil - silkolene pro 4 is prob the best going, then you should not have too many worries.

change the oil and filter every 3.5 - 4 k miles too.

i never feel like this , where it's safe pedal to floor and go. service it as subaru recomend and oil and filter every 5,000 miles .
most fun you can have with your clothes on.

No more than 3000 rpm when cold & then give it some, I feel guilty when i've been playing with Motorbikes & my Mates fireblade westies as the scoob is never off the limiter through the 1st 3 gears only way to start pulling some back some ground.
Use the guilt as an excuse for more treats for the scoob :D :D

i give her 10 minutes to warm up and then let her have it.

crowtherg 25 July 2003 05:14 PM

Funny subject this.

I'll come in from a good 100 mile thrashing, back from say Norfolk into Essex and think Sh*t should I have done that, what will it have done to the car. But at the end of the day, Warm them up, cool them down and I am sure they will be fine.

What do other people regard as what is known as a "spirited" drive. And how often do people drive their pride's and joy;s like this?

It really is pretty important not to wind it up until the oil has warmed up. It takes longer than you might think too. The water temp warms up long before the oil.
