Does anybody know if you can get a TV tuner for a laptop?

I would assume that it would be external, as opposed to an internal desktop card.

Any ideas???

Craig.:D

I got a Haupaug (sp?) from ebay for about £50.00 works well and comes with a radio tuner. Plugs in the USB port.

Scoobydid - So does it do full screen TV?

A quick look on Dabs shows £50 for the Hauppage Win TV and £80 for the one with a radio as well. Worth it?

You do get only what I can describe as picture lag with most of the USB tv devices. The hauppage one I used to have too and I was very disappointed with it, so stuck my old PCI one back in. Works fine, but can only shunt either 15 or if very lucky 30 frames per second through if memory serves as bandwidth is poor on USB 1.1. Worth a try at £50 but I would wait and see if any other guys on here have experience with USB tv jobbies too :)

Cheers,

Nick :)

Cheers for the replies, fellas.

Are there any others out there apart from the Hauppage ones?

Nebula Electronics DigiTV USB Box but requires USB 2.0 if your laptop is up to it.

Edit to say that the above is a digital terrestial receiver rather than analogue.

Cheers

Ian

Cool, a USB 2.0 is right up my street, have been waiting for one to come onto the market. I think that the 'lag' issue on standard USB ones will have disappeared on thoes :)

I've got the WinTV USB on USB 1.x and not really noticed any lag. It's certainly done the job for occasional watching whilst on my PC.

You must need a faster PC Nick ;) :D

Mr Footlong 25 July 2003 11:25 AM

You notice it when compared with using the PCI card version or watching say a football match in my experience. Yes Chris, must need even more power ;)

i am running a thinkpad 560x on a P233mmx with 32mb ram using the usb wintv. still watchable, in window or full screen.

Scoobydid 25 July 2003 11:44 AM

I didn't have any lag trouble, last year during the world cup I plugged it into the desktop and played it out using a projector. was excelent with a 6 * 8 picture on the wall:D

Cheers
Andy

I am not saying it isn't watchable, I must just be fussy I guess. If you run the 2 side by side you should easily notice what bothers me personally:).

Cheers,

Nick :)
