Driven one and have to say the 3.0d sport was much better.

Parents had their 8 week old 3.0D stolen a few weeks ago.

They can not find a replacement car in similar spec for love nor money. Still a 12 month wait in Germany (country of purchase) and similar in UK, and they not willing to pay a premium to speculators, so have gone the Cayenne route.

Not sure about the 3.0 petrol though, the diesel is the popular choice apparently.

common as muck now - get something else!

Now the Cayenne comprehensively beats the pants of it in every respect thee should be some around pretty soon...

Simon S3 26 July 2003 12:40 AM

Not strictly true, As the X5 3.0d costs around 34 grand and the Cayenne S 44 grand can you really see people stump up an extra 11 grand?

The X5 3.0d is very popular. And the Cayenne will not change that one bit.

RB5#295 26 July 2003 01:20 PM

Fair enough, the diesel isn't really a direct competitor. The 4.3 petrol or whatever is the one that suddenly looks very inadequate...

How much do VW charge for the Toerag diesel?

Simon S3 26 July 2003 03:53 PM

Tourag TDI? Hmmm, I think the 2.5 V6 TDI is about 30 grand, the V10 TDI about 50 grand!

The thing is, I think people who really want an X5 will not settle for anything else and the lead times for this car are a good example of this.

Maybe I'm biased, but I don't think you give up an order for a BMW and 'settle' for a Porsche. Maybe you do for a VW I guess...
