Could somebody explain this please. My freeweb provider has frozen my site becase i have exceeded bandwidth for the month

From FAQ!

How much bandwidth do I get?
We offer up to 500MB of user bandwidth per month for all non-premium users, so long as it is being used in a proper manner. Premium Users are entitled to 1000Mb of bandwidth per month. Users can purchase an unlimited amount of extra bandwidth at the price of $9 per additional 3000Mb per month. Or our bulk bandwidth package which is available at the price of $30 per month for 50000Mb of bandwidth.

It means the total amount of data that's sent to or from your site in a particular period of time - a month, in this case.

I'm guessing that your package gives you the 500MB/month quota. That means that people viewing your site can, between them, download 500MB of images, text, videos or whatever else you have made available. So, for example, a 10MB video could be downloaded 50 times (ie. viewed by 50 different people) before your quota is exceeded.

The quota is there to limit the resources that your hosting company has to provide on your behalf. Suppose you have a hugely popular video on your site that half the world wants to see - their servers would be jammed solid and no other traffic would get through. By limiting access to individual sites, they're ensuring that their servers can cope with demand - and by charging for an increased quota, they're ensuring that they'll be able to afford new server upgrades as demand increases.

HTH

Andy, i dont having anything "downloadable" on my site but i have been uploading pics to it. But nowhere near 500mb worth, not yet anyway! Besides, my free website limit is 40mb.

Any ideas?

Boro - don't mix up "webspace" and "bandwidth"

i.e. you have 40mb webspace, and say on it you had a 10mb video. if in a month 30 people download it then you will have used 300mb of your 500mb bandwidth.

you say your site isn't that big, well, even say you have a few pages with photos on them, that total 1mb - well, once the pages have been viewed 500 times then your limit is busted!
