I have a request for a small Windows utility - I'm building a test lab and we have loads of machines set up through KVM switches. It's difficult sometimes to tell which system you're using (KVMs all hanging off each other and the like!), so I was after a utility that would set the Windows background to show the PC Name, IP Address, etc, etc. That way I can always instantly see which machine is active on screen.
I've used something along these lines before, but have lost the exe and can't seem to find it anywhere! Any help or suggestions appreciated. :) Thanks in advance Joolz |
I do a basic bitmap file which is just the name of the machine in say 36 point font and set the wallpaper to be that.
In addition, displaying username and computer name instead of "My Computer" is handy |
Try
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/bginfo.shtml Its free which is always a good start.... Steve |
Hey thanks Steve - that's exactly the program I was using before -
...and Chris - excellent tip on the reghack. Will apply to all machines. Total result!!! I knew I could rely on you all :D:D:D cheers Joolz |
